Lil Gator Game is a cute, friend-focused game about making friends, fetch quests, and making the entire park part of your hero game. In the DLC, you meet some new friends in a whole new location: the caves underneath the park.
Diving Back Into Lil Gator Game
I was the one lucky enough to end up with the code for Lil Gator Game when it came out in 2022. I adored my time with the base game, and I have been looking forward to the In the Dark DLC since it was announced. So, of course, I jumped on the opportunity to have a whole new adventure in the Gator’s park.
Lil Gator Game: In the Dark picks up where the base game left off; you have filled your play town with friends from all around the park, everyone ready and willing to continue playing the hero game you have come up with. That’s when Darklord shows up.

Darklord wants to destroy the little town you have been working so hard to build, so you decide to play along, thinking a villain might be the very thing your game needs. But it turns out, Darklord might be taking this whole thing a lot more seriously than you expected.
As you explore the underground portion of the park, you meet a lot more people who are minions of Darklord, and they are all ready to be added to the growing list of friends who are willing to help with the game. You also get some new weapons, new shields to surf on, drones, and a pickaxe that lets you fly through the air.

On top of the four or so hours the base game will take to beat, In the Dark adds another three to four hours of playtime, so you get basically a whole new game on top of the old one. It’s a ton of exploration, fetch quests, new NPCs, and a new story. All with the same vibes as the original: adorable, fun, and family-friendly.
The Pros of Lil Gator Game: In the Dark DLC
The original Lil Gator Game was one of my favorite games of 2022, so you bet I was excited to dive into this DLC. I immediately jumped in, and I wasn’t disappointed. In the Dark is just as beautiful, filled with amazing sound design, great characters, fun mechanics, and amazing little friends. It’s colorful, cute, and has a very sweet story.

The main character is still our best little non-binary gator friend from the base game, and we still have all our friends to support us in this new space. While I was expecting In the Dark to just be more of the same, it managed to give the same vibes as the original while still feeling fresh and new.
Most of the fun comes from the fact that it’s a new location; the caves are so cool and pretty looking. But our new villains also help out in making everything feel new, too. Lil Gator Game: In the Dark DLC adds a whole lot more of the same humorous writing, too.

The Cons of Lil Gator Game: In the Dark DLC
I have almost nothing but good things to say about Lil Gator Game: In the Dark DLC. It’s still cute, still funny, still well-polished, and I enjoyed my time with it. However, there were a couple of small things I didn’t like about this update.

The first was a very small thing; there is a drone that you can get to knock some of the cardboard monsters down from the ceiling. Its driving system is difficult in a way that isn’t fun. I’m glad it didn’t become a necessary part of finishing up the DLC, because the controls were absolutely miserable. I have played several flying games with really challenging flight mechanics that still managed to be fun. I am not sure if this was because I played the whole thing on mouse and keyboard, or if it is equally miserable on a controller.
The second issue I had was also small. In the base Lil Gator Game, there is a map of sorts that you can look at to kind of see where you are on signs throughout the park (the island is shaped like a gator head, and it is adorable). The underground is a lot more confusing; most of the locations look a lot alike, and it’s easy to get turned around. Yet there was no map of any kind. I think having signs similar to what they did up top would have made all the difference to me.

Conclusion
Lil Gator Game: In the Dark is a fantastic addition to the base game. I adore the original, and I even do randomisers of it in my free time. The DLC had a couple of small issues, but it didn’t impact my overall enjoyment of it.
I love this game, and I’m so happy it got some DLC. It is well worth the price; there’s lots to do and a bunch of story stuff. The new map is beautiful, the music and sound design are great, and you get to spend even more time with everyone’s favorite lil gator. I cannot begin to tell you all how much Lil Gator Game and In the Dark warms my heart. If you liked the base game, you won’t want to miss the DLC.
Final Verdict: Two Thumbs Up:
