2022 was a great year filled to the brim with tons of video games that I absolutely loved. While there are a handful of favs that couldn’t make this list, I managed to pair this amazing year down to just 10 games and DLCs that I had a lot of fun playing.
Lucy’s Dreaming
Genre: Point-and-Click, Adventure, Comedy
Developer | Publisher: Tall Story Games Ltd
Platforms: Steam, itch.io, Apple Store, Play Store
Price: US $17.09 | UK £13.49 | EU € 14,39
Lucy’s Dreaming is a love story to all those point-and-click, Sierra-like games of the 1990s. It looks, plays and feels like it was made back in my childhood. All the puzzles are amazing; there are no puzzles with insane answers (no repeat of the Rumplestiltskin King’s Quest 5 puzzle here), and the story is absolutely charming. I love this game, and I made a spoiler-free walkthrough for the story quests.
Bear and Breakfast
Genre: Simulation, Builder, Cartoon
Developer | Publisher: Gummy Cat | Armor Games Studios
Platforms: Switch, Steam, itch.io, Epic Store
Price: US $15.99 | UK £12.39 | EU € 13,43
If you love simulation games, Bear and Breakfast should be on your to-play list. This fun game is all about a bear that decides to start a bed and breakfast in his home woods to help bring back the humans, and he meets all sorts of weird characters along the way. This game is both funny and fun; I loved this game so much that I made a story quest walkthrough and a side quest guide as well.
Floppy Knights
Genre: Turn-Based Strategy, Deckbuilding, Card Battler
Developer | Publisher: Rose City Games
Platforms: Steam, Xbox
Price: US $13.99 | UK £10.84 | EU € 11,75
Floppy Knights combines all the things I love in games: deck building, cartoony graphics, and funny and weird characters. This goofy game had some bugs to start with, but updates have made this game so much more fun. I love weird deck-builders, and this little game is super fun, super polished, and is just my type of strange humor.
Little Inferno Ho Ho Holiday DLC
Genre: Casual, Indie, Adventure, Puzzle
Developer | Publisher: Tomorrow Corporation
Platforms: Steam, GOG
Price: US $4.99 | UK £4.29 | EU € 4,99
Ten years ago, Little Inferno came out for both mobile and Steam, and I have been a huge fan of this dark little game forever. This year, ten years after its original release, it finally has a holiday DLC; for anyone who loved the original, the DLC is an absolute must-have.
Frog Detective 3: Corruption at Cowboy County
Genre: Comedy, Funny, Casual, Adventure
Developer | Publisher: Grace Bruxner, Thomas Bowker | worm club, SUPERHOT PRESENTS
Platforms: Steam
Price: US $4.99 | UK £3.99 | EU € 3,99
I love all the Frog Detective games, and I will buy and play anything that Grace Bruxner has a hand in. This third instalment is bigger, better, and funnier. I love everything about this fetch questing game, from the weird humour to the goofy graphics and the new ability to ride a scooter around in the sand.
Logic Pic
Genre: Nonagram, Puzzle
Developer | Publisher: naptime.games
Platforms: Switch
Price: US $7.99 | UK £6.80 | EU € 7,99
Logic Pic is a nonagram game that I have dumped hundreds of hours in. I love playing this game; it has a ton of puzzles in it, and most of them can be played in two-players modes together or versus. I love this little game and have had so much fun playing with buddies and on my own.
Stray
Genre: Cats, Adventure, Cyberpunk, Exploration
Developer | Publisher: BlueTwelve Studio | Annapurna Interactive
Platforms: Steam, PS4, PS5
Price: US $23.99 | UK £19.19 | EU € 21,59
Who doesn’t love little kittens in backpacks? Stray is such an adorable, if dark, a game with beautiful graphics and a storied world built on a lot of lore. It’s filled with dangerous little zerg monsters but also a whole bunch of friendly robot people. Stray was deeply moving, beautiful, dark, and strange. Not to mention it has a kitty as a main character. I love every inch of this game.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe
Genre: Multiple Endings, Comedy, Choices Matter, Adventure
Developer | Publisher: Crows Crows Crows
Platforms: Steam, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series
Price: US $16.74 | UK £13.39 | EU € 14,73
If anyone played the original Stanley Parable, the DLC is just more of the same. It’s weird, has a million different endings, and it’s goofy fun. Players play as Stanley, a man who is a human man, probably. He finds that one day, no orders come into his computer for him to do at work. After leaving his office, he realizes that everyone else is gone. Will he figure out the secrets of his weird job, or will he wander in circles forever? Probably both.
Roguebook
Genre: RPG, Card Battler, Card Game, Strategy
Developer | Publisher: Abrakam Entertainment SA | Nacon
Platforms: Switch, Steam, PS4, Xbox One, Epic Store
Price: US $24.99 | UK £19.99 | EU € 24,99
As stated above, I am a sucker for deck builders. I was hooked for a month when this game came out in February. I was super into it from day one and even got back into it when the DLC dropped a little while later. I love the colorful story of this strange little deck builder; it’s the perfect gift for anyone who loves similar titles like Slay the Spire and Castle Morihisa.
Lil Gator Game
Genre: Action, Adventure, Casual, Indie, Relaxing
Platforms:Â Switch and Steam
Developer | Publisher: MegaWobble | Playtonic Friends
Lil Gator Game is a last minute addition to my favorites for this year. Release in mid-December 2022, this sweet little open world game features a gator who really likes to play pretend. In an effort to get their sister to play games with them again, this little gator rallies a whole island of playmates to make the best pretend real-life adventure game ever.
