Playing as the titular character in Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club, you’ll need all of Snoopy’s skills to solve the mysteries!

Will Snoopy be solving a paw-some whodunnit, or will it all be a bit ‘elementary’?

The Case of the Missing Dinner

Our number 1 detective!

Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club starts in Charlie Brown’s backyard. It’s suppertime and Snoopy is all ready to munch away, but his bowl is empty! What has happened? Who stole the food? This calls for an investigation, and so our first mystery gets underway.

The initial case serves as a tutorial, with notes popping up on screen explaining movement, interaction and the like. You’ll uncover more actions as you progress through the game, and these will be explained as and when needed.

This must be an important clue!

Question marks will float around objects that can be investigated or collected. Other items can be interacted with or inspected, and as Snoopy approaches, an on-screen note will appear to prompt a button click.

You can wander around the town in Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club, although some areas will need special skills to access them and there are invisible walls to keep you within the game area. However, you are always prompted as to where to go next to solve the current case.

Baseball mini-game. Published on LadiesGamers
Are you ready?

Charlie Brown and the other Peanuts characters will join Snoopy on his mystery-solving, and they will take part in mini-games which can be played for fun or form part of the investigation. You’ll be rewarded with lollipops, and these can be used when you solve the mysteries.

As well as baseball, you can practise kicking in American football, test your memory with a card game, find the hidden object, race in a soapbox car, play music and more. Each mini-game has three difficulty levels, and although they are not frustratingly difficult, they do become more challenging. A couple of the mini-games require controlling a vehicle to go through gates and avoid obstacles. Other mini-games require pressing a button when the indicator is in the green area, or following a sequence of button presses. Luckily, you don’t have to get perfect scores to progress.

Snoopy and his Many Costumes

What skill do I need?

As you progress through Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club, you’ll reveal different costumes Snoopy can wear to perform a specific activity. You’ll need to change costumes to access various areas, and sometimes you’ll need to do a succession of changes to complete a task.

Follow those tracks!

You’ll quickly learn ‘Detective Snoopy’, who reveals hidden clues or follows tracks and footprints. As you progress through the main chapters, you’ll learn: ‘Pirate Snoopy’, who digs for treasure; ‘Beagle Scout Snoopy’, who clears pathways; and ‘Detectorist Snoopy’, who locates metal objects.

Oh, the joy of clearing the leaves!

My personal favourite is ‘Gardener Snoopy’, who uses a leaf-blower to clear away piles of dry leaves to reveal clues, dig spots, or other items. There is something very satisfying about clearing away the autumn leaves.

Navigating Round the Town

Onward to the City Park!

As well as the main town, there are several other areas which can be entered, including the concert hall, school and forest, and these have their own maps. Objectives are clearly marked on the map, so there is no guesswork in knowing where to head to! There are several bus stops located around the town, which, once activated, allow for fast travel.

Following the trail of clues can be frustrating, as often you will need to guide Snoopy from one side of the map to the other. Occasionally, I felt this to and fro was done just to extend the length of the game, especially one time when I’d started at the school at the top of the map, and was required to go to the forest at the bottom (where there isn’t a bus stop), just to hear one sentence before heading back to the school.

I’ve found a comic!

However, you don’t have to rush to collect the clues and solve the mystery. Take your time and wander around the areas, open the school lockers, blow away piles of leaves in the pumpkin patch, and see if you can find the 20 comic strips. This is a great addition, and you can read your finds at one of the many blue boxes in town or at the Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club main menu.

As well as comics, you might also come across one of Woodstock’s friends. You’ll need to find all eight to progress to the last chapter, but when you get to that stage, you’ll have additional clues to help find them. Snoopy will also uncover bags of marbles, which are needed for certain tasks throughout the mysteries and allow Snoopy to have different skins.

The Grand Reveal

The mystery solving board, showing the clues you've gather and the four spaces which need to be filled. Published on LadiesGamers
Which clues reveal the culprit?

At the end of each main chapter mystery, you need to select the four clues which reveal the culprit or solve the conundrum. You have three guesses, and after that, you’ll need to use lollipops to try again. If you are paying attention to everything which is being said, then it’s not too complicated.

Solving the final mystery locks the game and gives the credits. You will not be able to access that playthrough again. You are given a warning that this will happen, and the prompt to collect any missing comic strips.

Gameplay

The controls are well explained and are shown on-screen. However, to use Snoopy’s ability whilst in costume and to run, you need to hold down the ZR or Y button. It would have been so much more accessible to have an option to toggle rather than hold.

Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club runs well in both docked and handheld modes on the Switch and Switch 2, albeit the loading times are slower on the original Switch. There is no touchscreen functionality, but you can use motion controls in the races.

All of the Peanuts gang are voiced, but you can click through the conversations if you prefer.

The game autosaves regularly, and there are three save slots. You can delete a playthrough from the main menu.

There is no day/night cycle in Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club, although the mysteries take place at different times of the year. It took about 7 hours to complete the introduction, three main mysteries and the final mystery, and I’d collected 75% of the comic strips.

Conclusion

Whilst Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club is not going to tax the little grey cells too much, there is enough in the game to be challenging and enjoyable for the casual sleuth. Snoopy’s comments are as witty and amusing as the comic strip, and watching his little ears flap as he runs just made me smile.

Final Verdict: I Like it a Lot I like it a lot
