Stellar Settlers Space Base Builder is a new city-builder colony simulation game being released on Early Access from developers Tinymice Entertainment and publishers Rogue Duck. The game is set in uncharted space, where you take control of a space colony and build your thriving colony on alien planets in different challenging and hostile environments and face events that can destroy your colony.
As the environments are different and procedurally generated, you must adapt your play style to suit and mine and collect as many resources as you can to increase your Univeral credit. Eventually, when you have enough resources, you can start designing and building a spaceship to escape the planet, especially when the environmental conditions get too harsh.
Choose a Planet and Settlers
There are five different planets to playthrough; however, there will be ten after the game moves through early access to full release. Then, Chill, Sandbox, and Spaceship modes will also be added to the game during the Early access stage.
When you begin a game of Stellar Settlers Space Base Builder, you get to choose five settlers to start your colony with. More settlers arrive at your colony as you play through the game.
Each Settler gives you a different bonus, so for instance, if you chose Isabelle as one of your settlers, she has a bonus that decreases all material spending by 5%, or if you chose Harper, you get an increase in research credits to help you research new structures quicker on the tech tree.
Manage Resources in Stellar Settlers Space Base Builder
In your role as the leader of the space colony, managing resources is crucial. You’ll oversee everything, from mining valuable minerals with robots to nurturing life in your greenhouses. Mining resources are collected by mining bots, which collect life support, building, energy, and conductive materials, all of which are coloured-coded to keep you on the right track.
Each choice you make influences the direction of your colony. The game pushes you to carefully juggle all the resources, ensuring your colony not only survives but thrives as it spreads to new planets.
But watch out, as the cosmos is full of dangers. Meteor strikes can hit unexpectedly, and other special events can add a sense of urgency to your colony building. As you expand, dealing with these meteors becomes vital, forcing you to make quick decisions to protect your colony’s progress.
Special Building Feature
Stellar Settlers Space Base Builder has a special feature that makes it stand out from the other colony city-building games. When you build your colony of pods, you can build the pods vertically and horizontally. So, instead of just expanding horizontally, you can also build upward. Building like this adds a fresh perspective to organising and building your base. You use base pods, which are connected in various ways with tunnels.
Furthermore, each pod serves a unique purpose, with its own strengths and costs, such as a Miner’s pod used to extract resources or a Greenhouse pod for growing food. To keep everyone safe and happy, you’ll need to mine resources and expand your base thoughtfully. I really like the way you can build vertically and horizontally, as it gives you a lot of freedom to design your base how you want.
Special Events
Throughout the gameplay, you can expect special events to occur, such as Solar Flares that damage the pods and heat waves that can set the pods on fire.
Of course, it’s not just about building a base, as your Settlers are your most important tool for success. Throughout the gameplay, new settlers with different talents and perks/bonuses will arrive at your colony. You can pick the Settlers to stay in your space base with the best bonus to suit your play style and strategy. Settlers also get sick and need a sick bay pod to recover and, of course, enough food and water to survive in the harsh planet’s environment.
Once you start earning profits and have collected enough resources and Universal Credit, you can start building your Starship to exploit even better, richer planets to gain more Universal Credit.
Final Thoughts
As Stellar Settlers Space Base Builder is being released in Early Access, it’s hard to predict what the game will be like once it reaches its full release.
