Best Games of 2025: Lynne’s Choice

I’ve had the pleasure of playing and reviewing some great games this year, and it’s always difficult to choose the ‘Best Games of 2025’. Here at LadiesGamers, we try to make a guide for games we love, and as I’ve written several walk-throughs, the following games must be worthy of a mention in my ‘Best Games of 2025’.

I had a great time trying to Escape from Mystwood Mansion, a first-person escape room adventure, which tests your observational and logic skills. My desire to collect everything in Survival Kids inspired a ‘where is it?’ guide, as there were a couple of tricky locations to find. Loving Boxville 2 for its puzzles and artwork, made it a pleasure to write down some hints and tips to help reunite Red Can with his friend. When I played Ritual of Raven, I knew I had to share my top tips, enchanting skills and gift-giving ideas.

However, sometimes the best games are the ones which have made a lasting impression, and that’s the case with the following:

Best Games of 2025: Donkey Kong Bonanza

Exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, Donkey Kong Bonanza stepped away from the traditional platforming of older Donkey Kong games and gave us an excavating collect-athon. I just loved bashing through the landscape, gathering banandium gems, completing quests and solving the odd puzzle – definitely my happy place, especially when I got 100% completion!

Best Games of 2025: Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Title of Hello Kitty Island Adventure in bright colourful letters, with Hello Kitty and other SANRIO characters swimming, fishing and playing on a beach and in the sea.

Having never played a Hello Kitty game before, Hello Kitty Island Adventure was a sheer delight. I’ve visited Friendship Island every day since reviewing the game, to fulfil quests, decorate cabins, participate in events and collect resources. I’ve tried to stop visiting, but the bright colours and happy themes just call me back – it’s rather addictive.

Best Games of 2025: No Man’s Sky – Nintendo Switch™ 2 Edition

Occasionally, you’ll come across a game that simply takes your breath away (and that’s not because it’s based in space). If you’ve read my bio, you’ll know that back in the 1980s I played Elite, first on a borrowed BBC Micro and then on my very own Amstrad CPC. Elite will always have a special place in my gaming heart – I flew around space for hours upon hours, trading cargo, delivering passengers and battling pirates. Elite was influenced by sci-fi classics like Star Wars and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and in turn, has influenced No Man’s Sky.

Although No Man’s Sky was first released in 2016, it didn’t arrive on the Nintendo Switch until 2022, and then in June 2025, Hello Games released a Nintendo Switch 2 edition, not only with enhanced visuals, but with multiplayer and planetary settlements, so it was in keeping with the other platforms. Unlike Elite, No Man’s Sky has quests and more structure, but there is still the vast arena of space to explore, battling, trading, and upgrading. It encompasses so much of what I enjoy from a game, and it rekindled a gaming feeling that I thought I had lost. It has definitely been a highlight of 2025 for me.
