Capy Castaway, a cosy co‑operative sandbox adventure from Kitten Cup Studio, is set to feature in Steam Next Fest this June. The title leans into relaxed, story-driven exploration and light puzzle-solving, positioning itself within the growing “wholesome” games space.
Kitten Cup Studio is a female-led development team, previously known for Pekoe, a tea-making simulation.
Gameplay of Capy Castaway
After a flood sweeps several zoo animals far from home, a young capybara pup named Capy washes ashore on a mysterious island where lost things gather. Here they meet Corvi, a clever crow who has a lot to say. Together they set off to explore a whimsical island, meeting new friends, helping fellow castaways, and uncovering the story hidden beneath the island’s quiet surface.
Capy can sniff, dig, and push obstacles, while Corvi can fly, fetch items, and carry Capy to new places. Combining their strengths opens new paths, reveals hidden stories, and lets you approach challenges in creative ways.
Capy Castaway centres on open-ended puzzle-solving within a vibrant, nature-focused world. The sandbox approach allows multiple solutions to environmental challenges, while narrative progression is shaped by player choices, leading to multiple possible endings. The experience supports both solo play and two-player co‑operative sessions.
The game’s tone is reinforced by a relaxing soundtrack composed by Mark Sparling, known for his work on A Short Hike.
What Will Be Next
Capy Castaway has appeared across several industry and community showcases, including XP Game Summit, Toronto Game Week, gamescom, the Women-led Games Showcase, and Wholesome Direct. Future appearances are expected at BitSummit 2026 and a subsequent Wholesome Direct presentation.
An early demo will be available on Steam Next Fest in June.
