Cast n Chill is a 2025 fishing idler game developed and released by Wombat Brawler.

The Premise of Cast n Chill

In Cast n Chill, we explore serene lakes, rivers, and oceans while fishing with our cute dog. We fish, upgrade our gear, and reel in legendary catches, all while listening to a pretty nice soundtrack and enjoying some beautiful, pixelized views. And yes, you can pet the dog.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Cast n Chill is delightfully simple – we start with a basic boat and fishing rod. We fish, we sell what we catch, use the money to upgrade our gear, buy better lures, and fishing licences to other parts of the map. There are 13 fishing spots and 50 types of fish altogether, so there’s plenty to discover and enjoy.

The game has two game modes: active, where we are fishing and so on, and idle mode, where we let the game do everything in the background. Since the soundtrack is very nice and it includes a lot of nature sounds, it actually makes for an enjoyable background app while working on something else.

The Art of Cast n Chill

Cast n Chill is a fantastic game. I am always pleasantly surprised by how beautiful pixel art games look nowadays, especially considering the games I remember from my childhood were also pixel art. Let me put it this way: I remember them for the story or the gameplay, not the visuals. With technological advances over the last 30 years, advancements in color palettes, shading, and so on, pixel art games are significantly different from those of old. Over the last few years, we’ve seen some stunning pixel art games, and I think Cast n Chill is easily one of the prettiest.

The soundtrack is also great; in fact, I would buy it if it were released separately. It also includes environmental nature sounds, quite in tune with the rest of the game.

Some Other Things

Cast n Chill has basic audio and video settings. There’s a Controls tab in Settings, where you can see how the controls work, even if they’re minimal. You can also choose the game mode – idle or active- from the main menu of the game.

Cast n Chill has Steam achievements, but no Trading cards yet.

Conclusion

Over the last few years, we’ve seen games of all genres and sizes, and kinds. Surprisingly, or perhaps not, we’ve also seen a couple of fishing games. Dave the Diver and Dredge come to mind easily. Appropriately enough, you can buy Cast n Chill in a bundle with Dredge right now. All three games are different, and yet, at the heart of them is the art of fishing – by yourself or in company, in silence, in touch with nature and the world around us.

Cast n Chill can easily be seen as more than just a game, but rather an experience, especially if you’re stuck in an office during the summer and feel that special yearning for nature that cannot be fulfilled for a while. Cast n Chill can be a worthy substitute for the real thing.

Final Verdict: Two Thumbs UpTwo thumbs up
