Completely Stretchy: Completely Fun

Completely Stretchy is a 3D first-person platformer that thrives on its bizarre premise and quirky world. While its odd visuals and unusual NPCs might initially seem uncertain, the game shines as a fun, stress-free exploration of a carefully crafted, whimsical world. For those who enjoy cosy, low-stress experiences, it’s worth a look.

Anomalous Materials

The premise feels familiar, especially if you’re a Half-Life fan. You play as an apprentice at the Elektro Factory, where Dr. Gimble, a classic “delegate everything” boss, asks you to push big red buttons and turn valves. Predictably, things go awry, unleashing small, electric-eyed creatures called Elecktros. On top of that, you’ve been transformed into a stretchy, blue person with elongated, elastic arms.

Rather than fixing things himself, Dr. Gimble sends you on a mission to retrieve the Elecktros. The game’s plot is lighthearted and family-friendly, featuring no violence and plenty of opportunities for players to engage (or not) with the lore. You can either focus on collecting Elecktros or take time to explore and chat with the quirky NPCs to uncover more about the world.

Explore and Collect

The gameplay is straightforward if you’re familiar with FPS controls. You can jump and shoot your elastic arm to grab onto surfaces, zipping around like a stretchy Spider-Man. Mastering this mechanic isn’t necessary to enjoy the game, you can play at your own pace, keeping things as casual or as skillful as you prefer.

Your elastic arm can also grab and throw objects (or NPCs) with amusing results. The core objective is to collect Elecktros and return them to the factory, which you can achieve in two ways:

Free Exploration: Wander through the game’s beautifully designed world, uncovering hidden areas and unexpected locations. This approach feels like a leisurely stroll, rewarding curiosity with pleasant surprises.

Side Quests: Engage with NPCs to complete tasks ranging from simple fetch missions to more complex challenges like timed ring dashes or assembling a hoverboard. These quests add variety for those who prefer structured objectives.

Experienced players may breeze through the game, but casual players who enjoy taking their time will find plenty to love in its relaxed, exploratory nature.

Unique Look and Atmosphere

Completely Stretchy adopts a soft, minimalist 3D art style with a simple but effective colour palette. There are three main regions to explore: a central city area, a factory, and a forest, each with its own distinct architecture and vibe.

NPCs are delightfully odd, with exaggerated features like large noses and bulbous eyes. They often react with confusion to your new blue stretchy form, which fits the game’s quirky tone. The world’s carefully crafted oddness feels cohesive and inviting, encouraging players to stray off the beaten path to uncover secrets, be it a hidden nightclub or a secret mine.

Despite its eccentric visuals, Completely Stretchy remains family-friendly and accessible to players of all ages.

Conclusion: Weirdly Original

Completely Stretchy offers a pleasant walk through a highly unusual yet original world. Its simple mechanics and casual flow make it perfect for relaxed gaming sessions or even for sharing the experience with a friend. While it doesn’t innovate in gameplay, its unique art direction and whimsical charm make it worth exploring. A free demo is available on Steam.

Final Verdict: I like it  I like it
