Cook For Love is a 2024 puzzle game developed and released by RedDeer.Games.

The Premise of Cook For Love

In Cook For Love, we play Clement, a young Frenchman who gets hired at a famous Parisian restaurant under the tutelage of Jean-Luc Chatillone, a culinary legend. Unfortunately for Clement, Jean-Luc decided to take a little trip on the Orient Express, leaving the restaurant in Clement’s hands. With the help of Jean-Luc’s recipe book and Clement’s friends Maria and Sofia, Clement might make it and become a chef worthy of working onboard the Orient Express.

For those of you who have played Tell Me Your Story, Clement might seem familiar – he is Grandma Rose’s husband and Cook For Love is set before their meeting on the Orient Express.

Gameplay

Cook For Love is a point-and-click cooking game in which we follow recipes step by step. As the game progresses, the recipes become more difficult and require more steps to follow. We start with simple recipes requiring just cutting fruits and vegetables, and later, we use different kitchen appliances and various ingredients. The recipes might require just 2 steps or more than 8, depending on the dish. After each dish is successfully completed, we get to see a happy customer trying it.

The cooking itself is done within several areas—a pantry, where we have our ingredients, and a service area, which includes a blender, a cooker with different pots and pans, a cutting board, and so on. We have a big bow and two smaller ones, where we put our ingredients or cook to move between areas. At first, it seems a little disorienting, moving between scenes, but you get used to it quickly.

The game features over 40 recipes, each with instructions and adorable artwork. As we learn recipes, we also earn a reputation and rise in Clement’s career as a chef. Also, in the main menu, you can unlock and change the appearance of some of the appliances.

Speaking of appearance, Cook For Love is gorgeous—it is vibrant and cozy. The art style is the same as that of the developer’s other games, Tell Me Your Story and Amelia’s Garden. Once again, we have no timers, making the game the perfect escape to relax. The color palette is warm and rich, and the game looks like it was hand-drawn, with soft and round lines.

The soundtrack fits well with the game’s overall atmosphere. None of the characters are voiced—instead, speech is presented in bubbles, like in a comic book.

Some Other Things

Cook For Love has basic audio and video settings. The game has Steam achievements but no trading cards yet.

Conclusion

With its colorful visuals, heart-warming story, stress-free gameplay, and snappy controls, Cook For Love is perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Whether or not you’ve played Tell Me Your Story and Amelia’s Garden, you’ll love Cook for Love and might want to try the other two games as well.

Final Verdict: Two Thumbs Up: Two thumbs up
