Spooky season is upon us, and it’s time for Halloween, creepy movies, and candy. In order to get into the spirit of Halloween, it’s time for some horror and thriller games for those who like a little unnerving, spine-tingling, and creepy crawlies for the season. These range from non-scary games with Halloween themes or vibes to very spooky titles without the gore and cursing normally found in the genre.
For those looking for amazing cozy-yet-scary games, I’ve compiled a list of all my favorites. I have put content warnings and tried to explain what you will be getting into with each game, so stay safe this Halloween with the level of scare that’s right for you!

Gloomy Eyes is a challenging little puzzle game that feels like you are playing Coraline or Corpse Bride. The aesthetic is dark, gloomy, and spooky, but it is still family-friendly. The cute main characters are to die for, and this adorable little game was a favorite of mine in 2025.
Little Witch in the Woods

When you are fishing in Dredge, it’s best not to stay out when it is dark. There are some creepy critters in the water that like to eat boats, making this game fun, family-friendly, and has the right amount of spookiness in it.

Call of the Sea is a Lovecraft-inspired puzzle mystery horror game. It’s rated Teen in the US, and for good reason. It’s a challenging game with some violence and blood, but it’s creepy while still being a cozy time. It’s about as cozy as horror games can ever get, and it’s quite the fabulous adventure.

Hollow Knight is one of those games that’s great to pull out any time of the year, but it is especially perfect for Halloween. It takes place in a spooky underground world of insects, lending it the feeling of spookiness without actually being scary. But it is quite a challenging game if that is something that appeals to you.

I couldn’t have a list of Halloween games without including all three Luigi’s Mansion games! The newest one was released in 2019 for Nintendo Switch, and it is filled with spooky fun for the whole family. I would recommend any of these titles for a brilliant beginning to autumn.

It’s a horror thriller in the purest sense; it’s not here to scare you, but the world it builds will certainly creep you out. It’s impossible, thrilling, and feels like a great thriller movie that sticks with you. This one is rated Teen, so keep the younger kids away.

Kona is a mystery that gets very creepy very quickly. It’s not for the younger kids or the faint of heart, but there is nothing overly gross or horrifying. It’s as cozy as atmospheric horror can get. If you like thrillers scares but without the gore of normal horror games, Kona‘s perfect for you.

The Little Nightmares series is not for the faint of heart. These games are incredibly scary, full of really insane monsters, jump scares, and things chasing you. It’s a stealth game where you are helpless to defend yourself if you get caught. While I wouldn’t recommend this game for kids, for any adult who wants to be seriously creeped out without any gore, I would recommend any of the Little Nightmare games.

You play as a witch who has given up her soul to fight the forces of darkness. This grim and moody game is based on Slavic myths.
