The Gameplay of Diorama

In Diorama, we build dioramas in a cozy pixel style. We have absolute freedom as to how and what to put in our diorama, and there’s a huge variety of furniture and stuff to choose from. Almost everything can be customized, resized, and flipped around. We can change the weather (sunny, rainy, foggy, and snowy) and the time—day and night.

Other than building spaces, there’s no inherent goal in this game. There are no timers and quests. You build or mess around for as much or as little as you want.

The variety of objects in the diorama is quite big. You can place furniture and smaller decorative objects, plants, knickknacks, and even dolls inside the diorama. Some of the objects you can interact with—for example, we can play a little tune on the piano.

Diorama offers the option to connect with a friend and build and decorate a diorama together. It also has a monthly build contest—the current one is until the end of October, and the theme is “Spooky.”

Controls

In Diorama, we move around using the WASD keys on the keyboard. We place furniture and stuff with the left mouse button, and we use the right mouse button to customize most furniture by changing its colors. The middle mouse button is used to make a copy of a piece.

The R button on the keyboard is used for flipping and mirroring furniture, F – for searching for furniture by typing names or keywords, and E – to show or hide the interface. Besides flipping and mirroring, you can’t rotate furniture. You need to delete it and place it anew.

Some Other Things

Diorama has Steam achievements but no trading cards, as of yet. The game has many video settings, including the option to reduce motion, which disables animations, screen shake, and lightning and may help players with motion sickness. It also offers options in color correction, including several presets (default, soft, pastel, vibrant, and muted), which I’ve rarely seen in games.

Conclusion

If you are a fan of building games, Diorama might be the game for you. It offers us the chance to build and decorate interiors and exteriors in the same cozy pixel style. Honestly, what’s not to like?

Final Verdict: I Like it. I like it
