Gaming News Week 37

Come on in, get yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea and pull up a chair.

Did you watch yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? I have a feeling that many people will be over the moon with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door getting a remake on the Switch!

Anyway, here’s this week’s other news.

That’s Dedication!

Talk about dedication: one fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons took it to the next level. He set himself the goal to visit all the 43 artworks in the game, the ones Redd is selling (if you’re lucky and not being conned by the little crook). Amazing, check out the clip on X!

Marvelous’ new action RPG, Silent Hope, is getting close to its release on October 3rd on the Switch and PC. Now you can get a taste of what the gameplay is like, as there’s a demo in the Switch eShop and on Steam. Join the seven heroes in their quest to save the princess from her tomb of crystallized tears!

Everdream Valley: PC Content Now On Switch

You might have noticed an update for Everdream Valley on your Switch: not only did it repair some crashes, it added quality of life, and it also filled in the gaps between the PC and Switch versions. The patch notes can be found here. The thing that stands out to me the most is a brand-new sorting feature for inventory and storage. You can now easily arrange items based on various criteria, like price and type. Told you I love organizing stuff!

Switch players will also get the USA Pack, including the USA Confetti, Carpet and T-Shirt. I love it when a developer is committed to keeping their game up to specs!

Major DLC for Cassette Beasts

When Lottie reviewed Cassette Beasts earlier this year, she gave it our highest rating. Now, a major DLC called Pier of the Unknown is coming on October 4 to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for £5.89/€6,89/$6.99.

So, charge your oversized flashlight, steel your nerves, and step into the eerie yet captivating world of Brightside Pier, a long-forgotten location reclaimed by nature after years of abandonment. Unravel a fresh and engaging storyline as you delve into the mysteries of three carnival-themed attractions and uncover the hidden wonders they hold.

This spooky new area adds 12 brand new and unique monsters to the Cassette Beasts roster, bringing the total number of monsters in the game to 141, meaning you can now unlock 19,881 fully imagined fusions for your squad!

Fae Farm: More Magic Coming

Have you started your adventure in Fae Farm? It’s nice to know that, added to the already huge amount of gameplay in the story, this is only the beginning. Between December 2023 and June 2024, two waves of free additional content will be released via the eShop to expand your horizons. This will include new places to discover, new characters to befriend and romance, new creatures, new stories and more! Don’t forget we have a review up and a guide that keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Sticking to the Cat Theme: Cattails

Remember Cattails? Years ago, we reviewed the game, and now, a second game is coming. You’ll lead your colony into the mysterious Wildwood in this cosy life sim RPG. Hunt prey, harvest herbs, collect magical treasures, & defend your new home from intruders. Build a thriving town to recruit new cats. Get to know the residents, fall in love, & raise a litter of kittens!

We now have a date for the sequel, Cattails: Wildwood Story, which is pouncing onto Steam on October 20!

In Cattails: Wildwood Story, players will create their own kitty cat and roam the lands of the Wildwood in search of prey to hunt and herbs to forage while attracting new cat residents to join their town. While getting to know their neighbours, they may even fall in love and raise a family of kittens with one of over twenty eligible partners. When a dark presence threatens their new home, the player must rise to the challenge and root out the corruption that lies at the heart of the Wildwood.

Sequel to Hidden Through Time

When Paula reviewed the puzzler Hidden Through Time, she wrote in her conclusion:

Hidden Through Time is a delightful engrossing and cute little game. For anyone with a young family to entertain, Hidden Through Time would be a fantastic opportunity for some quality family time in front of the TV and the Nintendo Switch.

The sequel is almost here: The adventure begins on October 5th, 2023, when Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic makes its grand entrance on Steam and GOG.

In this new instalment, players are whisked away on a captivating odyssey that transcends time and cultures, weaving myths and magical landscapes together into a mesmerizing puzzle experience.

Inspired by Broken Sword

Point & Click mystery adventure game Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 28th.

Headed up by the art director from Broken Sword 2.5 and featuring a talented voice cast that has appeared in many famous titles, Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit takes you on a trip across beautifully rendered locations in Eastern Europe imbued with romanticism and conspiratorial intrigue.

It all begins as a personal story about Milda travelling to the home of her deceased Lithuanian grandfather after receiving a mysterious letter. The letter references a family secret, which soon unfurls into a rich web of enigmatic danger that draws on the rich and underexplored history of the region, leading her to investigate a lost relic, Lithuania’s most legendary royal and the clandestine machinations of the KGB during the Soviet era.

DLC for Eastward

During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, Chucklefish announced that Eastward will be getting a DLC for PC and Switch. Eastward: Octopia follows Sam and John as they start a peaceful new life as farmers in a remote mountainside village. Players will grow crops, tend to livestock, and unleash their culinary creativity using freshly farmed produce to create new meals. There are fishing holes to visit, ghosts to chat with, and a colourful cast of Eastward characters to impress with John’s new recipes.

As the farm grows, so does the nearby town. Players are able to transform an abandoned fairground into a thriving community, constructing homes and shops and welcoming in familiar NPCs as new neighbours.

Wargroove 2 Release date

Also featured in the Nintendo Direct was Wargroove 2. Heading to PC and Switch on 5 October. Wargroove 2 builds upon the original game’s charming pixel art and challenging turn-based combat with a new playable faction, new Commanders, and three new interweaving campaigns to take on. The price will be $19.99 / £16.75 / €19,49, but when you pre-order the game, you’ll get a 20% discount.

That’s it for this week; thanks for reading!
