Come on in, get yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea and pull up a chair.
A lot of news this week about Disney’s Dreamlight Valley. With the surprise that it won’t be a free-to-play game after all, paid DLC and free content updates are coming. But there’s more to tell, so here’s this week’s news.
Fashion Dreamer is Here
It’s been a long time since we got our fashion kick with the Style Boutique/ Style Savvy games, so the fact that Marvelous’ Fashion Dreamer is releasing today is very welcome.
To remind you, if you download the game in the eShop before November 20th, you get a 10% discount.
Snufkin Coming to Switch and Mobile
Norwegian studio Hyper Games and Swedish publisher Raw Fury have announced that Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is coming to Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS. Previously announced for PC, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a musical adventure set in the enchanted world of Moomin, created by renowned Finnish author Tove Jansson.
Paula wrote about the demo in this article. Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a story-rich musical adventure game about Snufkin restoring the valley and helping the quirky and memorable characters and critters who call it home. A series of hideous parks have cropped up in Moominvalley, disrupting the landscape and its harmonious nature. As Snufkin, you will distract police officers, pull out signs, and knock over misplaced statues as you vigorously try to restore nature and the inhabitants’ homes while ending the industrious Park Keeper’s plans.
Roots of Pacha Releasedate on Switch
Roots of Pacha, the co-op farming and life simulation game set in the Stone Age lays down fresh roots on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 & 5 on November 28. The consoles get the newest version, version 1.1, which arrives on Steam that same day. Xbox One and Series X|S versions arrive in 2024.
The game, developed by Soda Den, already has over 100,000 villagers on Steam. So the fact that Roots of Pacha arrives on consoles with feature parity and cross-platform multiplayer with the Steam version is welcome! Paula reviewed the game on Steam a while back and wrote this in her conclusion:
There is so much to Roots of Pacha, all packed into a gameplay time of around 40 hours. You can see the love the developers have put into the game as you play, and, amazingly, it was all developed by such a small team. If simulation, farming, crafting, and so much more are what you enjoy in a game, then Roots of Pacha is worth checking out.
In version 1.1, you can explore romance options with Voda, receive smoke signal gifts and letters, watch new cutscenes, and more, alongside several quality-of-life improvements. Plus, Soda Den has further updates in the works for 2024 and beyond with the intent to maintain feature parity between console and PC versions.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is Not Free
In September 2022, Disney Dreamlight Valley was released on consoles and Steam. But contrary to the usual way, at least on consoles, it was released as an Early Access game. There were various versions available of the Founder’s Packs for a certain price. They gave you access to the game and cosmetic goodies as well as an amount of Moonstones (the in-game currency). The final game will be released for free in 2023, with purchasable expansion options to enhance the gameplay.
And now it is 2023, and a global launch is announced for December 5th; the game is leaving early access. Of course, people who already bought the game will keep their gamesave and their Moonstones. But the game will not be Free to Play! This is the statement from Gameloft:
This choice ensures that Disney Dreamlight Valley will be able to continue delivering on a premium game experience for all players. It’s important to us that we maintain our promise to keep delivering free content updates that add new characters, realms, clothing, furniture, and more surprises to your Valley. Purchases requiring moonstones will remain optional, fair, and match the level of quality players have come to expect. Players will still be able to collect free Moonstones via Dream Snaps and Chests, or optionally choose to purchase them.
This is the schedule of the versions that can be bought from December 5th:
Also, as a thank you to all Early Access players, every cosmetic item included in the upcoming Gold Edition will be given free to all of them. See the items below. It also means for Early Access players that A Rift in Time will have to be bought.
Paid DLC A Rift in Time and Free Updates
There’s more news about Dreamlight Valley to tell. The first paid DLC package is coming and will feature three-story acts. The first one is coming on December 5th. The DLC is planned to unveil a trio of distinctive environments that stretch across the entire game world: Ancient’s Landing, Glittering Dunes, and Wild Tangle. This is the schedule for A Rift in Time:
The expansion’s central storyline in this first part will focus on time travel and include characters like Jafar from Aladdin, EVE from WALL-E, Rapunzel from Tangled, and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
Added to that, the content roadmap for free updates has been published till after Summer 2024. One thing is for sure: you don’t have to be bored playing Disney’s Dreamlight Valley!
Oobmobiles!
In the Halloween update for Ooblets, a new bit of gameplay is added too: your Ooblets can now drive around in Oobmobiles! And as is that time of year, some limited Halloween Oobmobiles are available, too.
There are some barriers to getting your Ooblets driving, though:
- You need to have unlocked the Dept. of Ooblet Vehicles (DOV), which is related to the “Mystery Door in Town Hall” Tinstle Task available after reaching a player level of 5. It should become available a day after that’s completed (you’ll get mail about it)
- Your Ooblets need to be level 10 to get a license
- It costs a lot of gummies to get a license (currently 800, but that may change)
You can also buy oobmobiles at the kiosk in the DOV regardless of whether or not you have any ooblets that are licensed, but you won’t be able to equip them on ooblets until they’re licensed. This also means you can get your Halloween oobmobiles if you can afford them, but they will also be back next year.
The developers do mention that there are some bugs currently concerning oobmobiles in the Switch version, this will be remedied as soon as possible.
Cozy Quest Steam Festival
A new Steam festival featuring a curated group of cozy games, sales, developer interviews, and live streams. Cozy Quest invites players to snuggle up with a warm drink and a blanket between November 16th – 20th to celebrate the comfiest and cuddiest gaming experiences Steam has to offer.
Players will also discover all-new favourites from a hand-picked group of upcoming cozy champions. Loddlenaut will be featured, and other familiar titles are games like Fae Farm, A Little to the Left, Wobbledogs and Hokko Life. But there are many, many more, too many to mention. Save to say that many of our favourite titles will be there!
That’s it for this week; thanks for reading!
