A somber note in my blog this time. As you know I’m a huge Star Trek fan, especially of the Original Series. So the news that Leonard Nimoy died yesterday at the age of 83 was a bit of a shock for me. Earlier in the week I’d already read he had been rushed into hospital with possible heart problems, but still, his passing came as a surprise. The cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, even though he had stopped smoking 30 years ago, it wasn’t enough to prevent this disease.
This news was especially sad for me, as I lost my father two years ago to the same disease. I have seen what it does to someone who really wants to keep on living and literally isn’t able to breathe in enough air to do so. At least Nimoy lived five years longer then my dad did, but still February the 27th is a day that we lost an icon.
Though Zachary Quinto does a good job in the new Star Trek movies, Leonard Nimoy is and will always be Spock. I will leave you with a clip I’ve found on YouTube with some fragments of the Original Series with unintentional humor and misunderstanding of figurative speech on Spock’s part.
