Nyan Cat: Lost in Space is an endless runner platformer with colourful graphics and casual gameplay. As players race through the vastness of space and collect coins, unlockable skins and comics are available for purchase

We Have Lift Off!

The controls for this game comprise only of; up, down, left, right and the A button. As you navigate Nyan cat through space you must avoid evil cosmic horrors that cross your path, such as the notorious Space Dogs while collecting intergalactic sweets and coins.

As you traverse the endless levels, you will collect a number of candy and powerups that will either hinder or aid in your journey across the abyss. Although peddled for the casual gamer, if you happen to perish during your run you will be made to return to the very start as there are no save points to continue from the newest world you reached.

The game also has a leader board system implemented, so you can check your standing against other players. Which provides an aspect of competition as your size up your purr-fect run against others.

Nyan Nyan Nyan Nyan Nyan…

Although the bright, colourful and cute graphics are inviting and bright – the same cannot be said about the game’s soundtrack. As Nyan Cat is being hurled through space, the Nyan Cat theme is on a constant loop with no options to change it to alternative versions. Although the theme is nostalgic, after the first 20 minutes of gameplay, it became irritating. Fortunately, the game provides an option to turn it off.

Thoughts

Nyan Cat: Lost in Space should have been left behind when it was wildly popular in 2011. The constant restarting at the very beginning was frustrating. The unlockable content through collecting coins during gameplay did not entice me to continue playing. To complete my collection of Nyan Cat skins and collect all the comics, it took me approximately three hours.

Although I have ‘completed’ the game, I have no reason to return to it. But for those who wish to return to a time where Nyan Cat dominated and are looking for a casual mobile game to waste some time with, this game is for you.

Final Verdict: I don’t like it
