Fly like a Pigeon While Searching for Love
Pigeon: A Love Story is a needle-in-a-haystack simulator game with an interesting concept in which you’ll wander as a pigeon, looking for your soulmate across 5 big cities: Amsterdam, London, Paris, Tokyo, and New York. Not only are you searching for The One, but you can also go sightseeing, discover and collect landmarks in every city, and even land on graffitied rooftops.
As a travel enthusiast myself, I love how accurately these cities are built and scaled. It’s beautiful to be able to fly around cities you have visited but couldn’t get to know, or to get to know cities you wish to travel to someday.

Going through Amsterdam in Pigeon: A Love Story brought back so many memories from the first time I visited it, and it even allowed me to fully explore the city way faster than I would normally have.
One of my favorite parts is the map in the menu section. You can trace your flight path and pinpoint a landmark you want to return to.

Pigeon: A Love Story also reminds me of the video game Lego Marvel Superheroes, where by the end of the game, I knew New York like the palm of my hand with how much time I spent running around the city. It’s so interesting to explore these cities from a bird’s-eye view.
Gameplay of Pigeon: A Love Story
I love when video game controls are intuitive and easy to remember, and Pigeon: A Love Story is no exception. Use the usual keys to fly (WASD), and the space bar or right-click to coo as loudly as you can to talk to other pigeons. You even have the option to coo with your microphone!

With Pigeon: A Love Story being a needle-in-a-haystack simulator, you will need to fly through millions of simulated birds looking for clues to where your soulmate is located. The louder you coo, the more pigeons you’ll reach, and each will turn red and either reject you or give you some clues about your soulmate’s whereabouts, such as “north is the way” or “look to the northeast”.
The moment I got those leads, I started searching like crazy, feeling like I was closer and closer to finding my one pigeon.

Some clues are very easy to miss, as they’re just bits of text passing by as you fly, so I recommend keeping an eye out for them! As for the rejections, some went so hard and hit too close to home!
That’s something so unique about Pigeon: A Love Story: these rejections were written by players, making them so relatable that they even reminded me of things that have been said to me. You know, the typical: “I’m seeing someone, I’ll get back to you, I’m not ready, I think we work better as friends,” and other more goofy and cute references to other games: “ Your pigeon is in another castle,” *wink* *wink*.
If you have a rejection that you’d like to see in the game, you can send it here.
Love comes when you least expect it
At first I didn’t know where to go or how to start looking for my soulmate in a big city, so I did what I always do in a new place: visit landmarks!
I just started searching for landmarks, and, funnily enough, when I started doing something else and stopped fixating on finding my partner pigeon, that’s the moment when I started getting more clues and found my pigeon not long after that!

Once you find your soulmate, the game doesn’t need to end there! You can fly together to the remaining landmarks and places of interest. Once you find them all, you’ll get a cute postcard view of the city.

There is an option for people who are up for a challenge! You can choose if you want all clues enabled in your journey, 1/2 clues, or no clues at all. With all the clues, I found my soulmate in 17 mins; with half of them, it took around 25 mins. Now I’m on my third run with no clues, and I’m yet to discover my pigeon partner!
Learnings from Pigeon: A Love Story
While playing Pigeon: A Love Story, it gave me the perspective on how big a city actually is, and how many people there are out there in this world. Sometimes we fixate on the one person that rejected us, and we forget there’s a full sky filled with pigeons, and the more we get ourselves out there, the easier it will be to find our one true pigeon if we listen closely to the clues that life gives us.

This time I played solo, but you can also play co-op, which is something I’m excited to try and play with my friends just to see how long we take to find each other or to find love together. As for the soundtrack, though it’s not the kind of music I normally listen to, it is quite soothing.
Conclusion
Pigeon: A Love Story is a really cute and unique game, and it reminds you that when you stress over something, the farther you feel from that thing. Whereas when you relax and let life unfold… you find what you’re actually looking for.
There’s so much room for the game to grow. I’d love to see more cities added, even if they’re small ones and not as well-known as the capital cities.
If you love bird watching or are curious about what it would be like to wander through a city from above, definitely check Pigeon: A Love Story! You can even play on the go, as it is also available on mobile and on the Steam Deck.
Final Verdict: I Like it
