It’s always great to have a Nintendo Direct, and this week we were treated to a first! Not one, but two Directs on consecutive days. The first was a special Anniversary Direct celebrating 40 years of The Legend of Zelda. Check out your regional Nintendo YouTube channel to watch the full presentation.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct
The Direct started with a montage of clips from the many games in The Legend of Zelda series, which have filled the past forty years, accompanied by a specially commissioned orchestral arrangement called the ‘Triforce Medley’.
If you enjoy the wonderful music from The Legend of Zelda games, you’ll be pleased to hear that The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert will start its worldwide tour in January 2027. Beginning in Tokyo, the tour will travel to North America (Chicago, Seattle, Houston and San Francisco), Europe (London, Stockholm, Vienna, Edinburgh and Glasgow) and Australia (Melbourne and Sydney), with more countries and cities to be announced.
If you were hoping for more information about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time then Nintendo didn’t disappoint. Along with the release date of November 5th 2026, we also got to see an extended trailer. The graphics for the game have been updated, but designed to keep the charm of the original Nintendo 64 game. In addition, there are two new Amiibo to accompany the game: Young Zelda, and Young Link.
As many of you know, the live action Zelda-inspired movie will release in cinemas on 30th April 2027. Its official title has been confirmed as The Legend of Zelda, with no subtitle, as it will encompass the whole franchise. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any trailers, but we did get the promise of a dedicated Nintendo Direct in the future.
Finally, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary, a special edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch at the end of October. The Joy-Con 2 controllers and dock feature Triforce inspired patterns in gold, green and black. In addition to the console, you’ll also be able to purchase a similarly designed Pro Controller and carry case.
