Upcoming Switch Games May 2021

Welcome, we’re into May already which can only mean one thing at LadiesGamers: it’s time to take a look at the upcoming new release games on our favourite handheld the Nintendo Switch for May 2021.

Mind you, not all games to be released are on the list here. Alternatively, you will see games that the big gaming sites don’t mention. These are the games that we are taking notice of, and if given half a chance, you can expect reviews for many of them! It should be noted that unless we have some personal experience with the game mentioned, there’s a link to the descriptions on the Nintendo website.

The Colonists – May 4th

The Colonists is a relaxing city building game. Each bot has a job to fulfil, from harvesting crops and fishing at the lake to transporting resources and discovering distant lands. You’ll advance through three different Ages as you build infrastructure for your colony by constructing road, boat and train transport systems. Help them work together to achieve automated harmony.

Take on a series of individual campaign missions, play randomly generated maps, compete on player-designed creations or build your colony unfettered by any constraints in the sandbox mode. Explore, research, manage, tweak and refine to your heart’s content. You’ll find my review of The Colonists here.

Save me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition – May 5th

Dive into a great adventure in the classic handheld era!

In a world where humans and octopuses are at war, Tako is a pacifist little octopus who rescues a woman from drowning one stormy night. A fairy sees this act of bravery and grants him the ability to survive on land. As he travels across the world, Tako defies his family and his people to try to resolve conflicts between humans and octopuses, plunging him into the very roots of this dysfunctional world.

Tako will solve puzzles, turn enemies into platforms by spitting ink at them, explore mysterious dungeons and fight tenacious bosses on his mission to end the war between the undersea Octopus kingdom and the terrestrial human realm. Will you help this brave octopus to spread his message of tolerance and teach both species to coexist in peace and unity?

Dull Grey – May 5th

You will be making one and the same choice, again and again, deciding who the son should become – a lamplighter or a tallyman. At first, it may seem that the situation leaves you no choice at all. But don’t jump to conclusions, take a moment to think it over and then, perhaps, you’ll see your story in full colour.

The drama of everyday life shown against the background of a retro-futuristic world controlled by the Progress program. An unusual mechanic of a single choice leading to different game endings. A visual style tracing back to Soviet graphics of the 20s. CyberHive – May 6th

CyberHive is a strategic space travel simulator with a non-linear story, in the cosmic opera setting, and in an anime visual style. Survive, gather resources, expand your crew, improve your starship, and pave the way through outer space, full of hostile races. Your path will consist of difficult choices and everyone will have an influence on the outcome and perhaps you might be able to solve the mystery of this universe.

You are the commander of the “Melistar” (“The Star Bee”), and you have a swarm of intelligent anthropomorphic bees. Your ship is your home, and your mission is to keep an eye on its fighting ability to repel enemy attacks; to stay on course, and to effectively collect resources to ensure that both the Queen and soldier bees have enough food; and, of course, to keep an eye on the status of your crew, whose members strive to get into trouble or arrange it.

C14 Dating – May 7th

C14 Dating was due to be released last month but has been delayed until May 7th. An otome dating sim that combines archaeology, friendships and love. You play as Melissa Flores, a 3rd-year anthropology student participating in a summer archaeological internship. The field school takes place in Belgium, over 5000 miles away from your native California!

You’ll be staying in an unfamiliar country for two months, it can be nerve-racking, but you couldn’t pass up such a learning opportunity! Maybe you’ll dig up some bones, or even unearth tools that were manufactured by early humans. You might also forge friendships and find romance during your stay.

Subnautica – May 14th

Subnautica is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean planet. A massive, open-world full of wonder and peril awaits you! You have crash-landed on an alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun-drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.

After crash landing in your Life Pod, the clock is ticking to find water, food, and to develop the equipment you need to explore. Collect resources from the ocean around you. Craft knives, lights, diving gear, and personal watercraft. Venture deeper and further form to find rarer resources, allowing you to craft more advanced items. Build bases on the seafloor.

Choose layouts and components, and manage hull integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean. What happened to this planet? Signs abound that something is not right. What caused you to crash? What is infecting the sea life? Who built the mysterious structures scattered around the ocean? Can you find a way to make it off the planet alive?

Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir & Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind – May 14th

Discover your inner investigator in Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir & Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind, two chilling adventure games available as a set on Nintendo Switch.

These deep cuts from Nintendo history have been localised in English and modernised for Nintendo Switch, with updated visuals and fully-voiced cutscenes. Subnautica: Below Zero – May 14th

Subnautica: Below Zero is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean world. It is a new chapter in the Subnautica universe and developed by Unknown Worlds. Dive into a freezing underwater adventure. Below Zero is set in an arctic region of planet 4546B. As a scientist posted to a research station on the planet’s surface, you are tasked with studying alien artefacts…

The Vesper space station orbits high above you, sending supplies, instructions, and receiving samples you launch from the surface. When disaster strikes the research station, you must improvise to survive: Construct habitats, scavenge for resources, hunt for food, and craft equipment.

Swim beneath the blue-lit, arching growth of Twisty Bridges. Navigate treacherous ice floes on the ocean surface. Clamber up snow-covered peaks, and venture into icy caves. Manoeuvre between steaming Thermal Vents. Below Zero presents entirely new environments for you to survive, study, and explore. Discover new lifeforms in the icy depths of 4546B. CLANNAD Side Stories – May 20th

CLANNAD Side Stories is an anthology of sixteen short stories penned by the scenario writers of the original CLANNAD visual novel. Featuring episodes set both before and after the events of CLANNAD, this collection is fully voiced by a stellar cast and brought to life by the gorgeous illustrations of acclaimed artist GOTO-P.

In this visual novel, players experience the story through onscreen text and visuals, accompanied by the original CLANNAD BGM and the vocal talents of a star-studded cast. Available in two languages! The text can be set to Japanese or English (audio is Japanese only). This includes in-game text, options, and the digital manual.

Miitopia – May 21th

A free demo of Miitopia is now available! Create your Mii gang today and take it with you into the full game when it launches on May 21st.

Set off on a whacky, whimsical adventure with a cast of friends in Miitopia on Nintendo Switch! Create your own party of Mii characters and face off against the Dark Lord, who has stolen the faces of Miitopia’s residents – including that of the King! Reclaim them and restore balance to the kingdom through the bonds of friendship.

Very Very Valet – May 25th

1 to 4 players control an “elite” team of puppet valets, working together to overcome any and all valet-related challenges. It’s going to take teamwork and a certain “just park it anywhere” mentality to save the world from a severe parking crisis! It’s not enough to just be a valet – be a Very Very Valet.

Valet alone or with friends! Up to four players can work together to solve this severe parking shortage. Help each other and hitch a ride, or cause chaos launching your fellow valets wildly – the choice is yours

Driving has never been easier – just point and go! Accessible driving controls allow anyone to quickly become a valet, with plenty of hidden techniques for mastering your valet game and cornering the market. The world is your parking lot show off your car corralling skills in over 20 unique levels! You’ll be helping out customers in a variety of locations and scenarios – city streets, cliffsides, bowling alleys, airports, and even trainyards.

King of Seas – May 25th

At the moment there is a demo available in the eShop for King of Seas.

Sumire – May 27th

Sumire is an indie narrative adventure, featuring a one-day journey through a picturesque Japanese village. In this enchanted place, a disenchanted girl named Sumire meets a mischievous spirit who makes her a deal to fulfil her most desired wish. But in order to see this wish come true, she must complete a series of tasks in return, before night falls and this special day reaches its end.

Follow Sumire on a series of quests both big and small, given by charming forest creatures, quirky townspeople, and Sumire’s own heartfelt needs. Take or refuse them, but be wary: as the day progresses, your path will change and you may never get the same chance again.

Discover collectables, bonus items, tests of skill, and other challenges, some hidden, some not. World’s End Club – May 28th

Renowned game writers Kotaro Uchikoshi and Kazutaka Kodaka return with a brand-new game that’s easy to dive into and full of twists and turns. This charming and vivid story of friendship and mystery will captivate new and experienced players alike!

Weaving Tides – May 2021

Call your Weaver and set out on a journey to explore ancient dungeons, solve puzzles, challenge quirky creatures, and unravel the great mysteries of a long-forgotten past! Weaving Tides is a charming single-player adventure set in a world of magic and textile. Ride on the back of carpet dragons and explore a stunning landscape, as you soar above and dive below the weave.
