Introducing the Cutest Alien Gums
We Are Gum gets you straight to business, teaching you the basic mechanics of the game with a few easy and straightforward puzzles. The game itself doesn’t contain many cutscenes or much of a story; only a few scenes here and there to introduce these goofy alien bubble gum characters and their shenanigans.
We Are Gum includes around 60 hand-crafted puzzles, where each level is designed to make you think creatively, as most challenges are not as simple.

Classic Sokoban Gameplay, But Make It Sticky
We Are Gum resembles the gameplay of the classic game Sokoban. Basically, all you need to do is push some blocks and solve puzzles in order to help these cute sticky guys find their way home. Simple enough, right? Well, the tricky part is that all these cute bubble gums move simultaneously, so you have to find ingenious ways to change their original formation in order to reach the portal that will send them home.

These goofy bubble gums literally stick to everything; they can get stuck in walls, corners, mud and also to heavy stones if you’re not being careful.
Luckily, some built-in hints and features help you untangle the tricky paths of each level. As for the controls, We Are Gum is fully playable with a keyboard or gamepad, with no mouse input or simultaneous key presses required.
Holding H will show you, with a pink hue marker, the corresponding positions and moves the bubble gums need to follow. Though I wish they would give you more hints! They only give you a vague clue without spoiling the entire solution. This might actually be useful for people who want to solve We Are Gum’s puzzling mysteries alone, but for others like me who want a little more help, it would be game-changing.

Other features include restarting from scratch. If you have put yourself in a sticky situation far from ideal, just press R, and you’re good to go. Or if you only need to retrace a few steps back, press Z, and it will undo your movements.
Even if you restart the whole level, the game allows you to retrace every single one of your past moves, which is something so helpful! You can Undo and Restart the level as many times as you need, and there is no time limit to complete the puzzles.
Not A Cozy Puzzle Game At All
Even though We Are Gum doesn’t rush you to finish it within a set time limit, something I truly appreciate, I felt a bit pressured while playing, as the puzzles are quite challenging and complex. After doing multiple tries on a level, I became quite annoyed with how little the hints helped and how I found myself going back to square one with no actual progress in the game.

Although I must say, once you find the solution, it feels so satisfying and rewarding. In some cases, I couldn’t believe the answer was staring right at me the whole time!
That said, I wouldn’t recommend playing it when you want to rest or simply unwind from the day, as the game requires a lot of mental energy to solve it, and it can get a bit frustrating after a while if you can’t figure out the solution.
Fortunately, you can wander around this little world and select the level you wish to do next. So, if you get stuck in one particular level, you can choose to do another one. The more you play, the more you get used to the game mechanics, use them to your advantage, and unlock more areas of the game.

Conclusions
As much as I love puzzles and solving riddles, Sokoban-style gameplay isn’t really my thing. Though We Are Gum is definitely fun to play, I had a great time racking my brain to solve it and getting these cute bubble gums home.
I’d love for it to have more different types of hints for people who are not so puzzle savvy as myself. With that, I’d definitely give it another go!
If you’re curious about your problem-solving skills or simply a Sokoban-style puzzle enthusiast, I’d recommend checking We Are Gum on the Steam store!
Final Verdict: I like it
