Game Soundtracks We Love: The Last Story

Game Soundtracks We Love: The Last Story

Hello to everyone! Thank you for joining us, on our cuppa filled gaming journey.

Last week, we had a soundtrack that added even more life and emotion to it’s game: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. If you missed it and want to check it out: Game Soundtracks We Love: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

Game of Choice

For this week’s choice, we went with a JRPG game on Wii. It was one of the three games included in the Operation Rainfall campaign in 2011: The Last Story.

The Last Story revolves around Zael, a member of a mercenary team led by Dagran. His dream is to become a knight, but such a dream is not easy for a mercenary to achieve – especially when the world is decaying and the evil Zangurak is plotting against the humans…

The game has a number of cinematic sounding tracks that fit well with the storytelling/scenes, but there are also more edgy and dramatic ones for battles (as heard in the trailer above). They certainly add a bit of tension and a sense of danger to the battles – making it more engaging and thrilling for the player.

Track name: ‘Just Being With You’
The more slower and harmonious tracks are welcomed after battles and dramatic scenes – such a great contrast.  Just Being With You is one of those tracks and it has a very light, happy and relaxed sound; rather peaceful and beautiful.

Track name: ‘Toberu Mono’
There are a number of tracks in The Last Story that uses elements of Toberu Mono – it plays during key moments and has extra significance during one particular scene (that I loved).

The above version of Toberu Mono, has beautiful vocals that add a little more emotion to the track; there’s a sadness, but also feelings of hope – I love it! 😀

Final Thoughts

The Last Story had a very interesting battle system and had little twists and turns in the story that got me gripped at times – pretty sure I shouted at the game once or twice when certain scenes happened. Really wish they make a sequel. 😛

It’s soundtrack though, certainly played a big part in the enjoyment of the game; adding tension, drama, energy and excitement, but balancing out those moments, with more peaceful and harmonious, beautiful tracks – love it! 😀

A few questions for you:

  • What are your thoughts on the tracks chosen?
  • Did you play Last Story?
  • If so; are there any moments that stick out in your mind when thinking about the game?

Would love to read your thoughts 😀 – Thanks for reading!

We love to hear from you!
