Game Soundtracks We Love: Zelda A Link to the Past

Hello to everyone! Thank you for joining us, on our cuppa filled gaming journey.

Last week we chose the soundtrack from a Nintendo racing game that was released on the Gamecube: Mario Kart Double Dash. If you missed it and want to check it out: Game Soundtracks We Love: Mario Kart Double Dash

Game of Choice

This week’s soundtrack comes from an action adventure game, created by Nintendo and originally released on the SNES: The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past.

In The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, the hero Link travels across the land of Hyrule; exploring dungeons, moving between the Light World and the Dark World, fighting large bosses and evil foes, and all in the hopes of saving Princess Zelda and bringing peace back to Hyrule!

The trailer uses the Hyrule Field main theme; it has a great feeling of being on an exciting grand adventure, but also like you are on a mission of great importance – fits your exploration and goal of saving Hyrule perfectly!

Track Name: Hyrule Castle
Hyrule Castle’s track is brilliant in making sure you know the significance of the place; it’s dramatic and serious which engages the player, and the intro sounds grand, like it’s announcing royalty is here – great for setting the scene and the tone of the castle (no happy fairytale castle here!)

Track Name: Forest of Mystery
The Forest of Mystery track, has a great mystical and happy sound to it, while creating a nice sense of intrigue too; brilliant for the Lost Woods, where you can be wandering around for ages picking up the wrong swords! – I can’t help but love the track, it’s quite different from the others and is so jolly! 😀

Final Thoughts

The Legend of Zelda games, always have great soundtracks that fill the game with feeling, grandeur, atmosphere and wonder; all brilliant aspects for making an adventure game even more engaging and fun.

Although the SNES was limited by it’s sound capabilities, Zelda A Link to the Past had a brilliant soundtrack that really brought the world alive, drew the player in and made the experience all the more memorable – I love it! 😀

A few questions for you:

  • What did you think of the tracks chosen?
  • Did we select one of your favourite tracks from the game?
  • Are there any other tracks from Zelda A Link to the Past that you feel deserve a mention?

Would love to read your thoughts 😀 – Thanks for reading!
