Nikki is back: Swapdoodle for free

You may remember I went on and on about missing Swapnote/ Letterbox. Swapnote was a perfect example of something really great, developed with connecting the gaming community in mind. I think the developers at Nintendo didn’t think there would be people out there who wanted to use such an innocent app for not so innocent pictures or other perverse ways. Such a pity to see the service end.

Nintendo tried replacing it with MiiVerse, but somehow that never did it for me. MiiTomo for mobile looked promising, but didn’t deliver the same fun as Swapnote did. Although I must say, that the recent update added some real good features, like messaging with friends individually. And then, out of nowhere, today Swapdoodle is released in the Nintendo eShop in Europe and America (Thanks for the tip, Samira and Marc!)
And this new app is once again hosted by our old friend, Nikki! So sweet to see her little face again! swapdoodle-nikki

Excellent news for me, finally I will get some more use out of my friend list in the 3DS. This is a free to start title, but with the right add-on, you can also draw more doodles per note, boost your note storage to over 6000, get more than 45 pen colors, and download stationaries featuring Nintendo characters. Of course, these add-ons cost money, but the drawing tutorials featuring popular Nintendo characters does sound kinda cool!

Swapdoodle doesn’t feature photo sharing. They say that it’s that feature that got the old Swapnote in trouble and culminated in ending the service. Let’s just hope Nintendo has got ways to weed out the weirdos that will no doubt try to disrupt things again.

Now you’ll have to excuse me, I’m going to get re-acquainted again with Nikki, and try out my drawing skills!
