A Tiny Sticker Tale

A Tiny Sticker Tale is a cozy miniature adventure about changing the world, using the power of stickers!
There was no gooey mess with these stickers, and I gave it our highest rating:
A Tiny Sticker Tale is one of the most adorable games I’ve played this year. The graphics are bold and colourful, removing and placing stickers is good fun, and the quests are satisfying.
Designed to be a short adventure, A Tiny Sticker Tale packs a lot in and definitely a game to get stuck into!

BAKERU

Oracle Saitaro and his Festival Troops are using a bizarre festival to take over Japan. Bakeru travels to 47 Japanese prefectures to free Japan from the grip of evil spirits!
Battling with drums and transforming into fairy tale heroes led James to give BAKERU ‘Two Thumbs Up’:
In the end, BAKERU is a delightful adventure packed with charm, offering a whimsical journey through a beautifully crafted world. The expansive levels, rhythmic combat, and fun driving segments keep things varied and engaging, while the game’s attention to detail and love for Japanese culture makes it feel like a heartfelt tribute to the country’s folklore.
Although it may be on the easier side, the game’s feel-good vibes, family-friendly graphics, and enchanting world more than make up for it, whether you’re exploring the large 3D levels, collecting tidbits of real-world history, or engaging in tight, fun combat, BAKERU is a game that’s easy to love. For those looking to unwind and enjoy a whimsical adventure, especially on sadder days, this one’s an absolute treat.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale

A painting adventure game about trying to be somebody
Featuring on both Paula and Mina’s Best Games of 2021, Paula rated this masterpiece ‘Two Thumbs Up’:
Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a delightful adventure. It has an intriguing story, innovative gameplay mechanics, well-written characters, engaging puzzles, and a heart-warming story. Now that the game has been released on the Nintendo Switch, I think it’s found the perfect home. I highly recommend you give Chicory: A Colorful Tale a try. If I could, I’d give it four thumbs up. I love it!

Dave The Diver

Dive by day! Serve by night! The best diving, harpooning, action-adventuring, and sushi restaurant managing experience you’ll ever have.
James took the plunge reviewing Dave The Diver
Dave the Diver is a wonderful dip into the ocean. For me, this was the game that kept on giving. With so many options during gameplay, I could not honestly cite a point where I felt bored. Dives were wonderous with plenty to explore and seek, whether it was finding new fish or discovering something sinister in the depths. Running the restaurant was also much more fun than I expected, far from a throw-away mini-game but an in-depth management sim. Either of these two elements of gameplay would make a great game but on top of all that, you have all the little surprises that make this something I could not recommend enough.
Like my best friend Dave, Dave the Diver is fantastic.

Dordogne

Immerse yourself in a unique narrative experience, embarking on a vibrant journey that will awaken your senses and evoke warm memories.
Mina enjoyed her holiday in Dordogne
Dordogne is as close to perfect as a game can be. There is a little jank, and a little weirdness in the UI, but the beauty and depth of the game make that absolutely forgivable.
I don’t think I will be playing Dordogne again any time soon; I think I need to recover emotionally from the story. But I do want to try it again from the beginning and see what other hidden wonders might be around the corners of Dordogne.

Did I Escape from Mystwood Mansion?
Escape From Mystwood Mansion is an extremely satisfying and well-rounded puzzle adventure. There is a good mix of puzzles and codes to decipher, varying in difficulty, but with the built-in hint system, nothing is frustrating.
For anyone who enjoys escape room scenarios, then Escape From Mystwood Mansion will surely be a winner.

Growbot

A beautiful point & click adventure about a robot saving her home.
Growbot grew on Paula
Growbot is an interesting and enjoyable game, I loved my time with it. With gameplay inspired by adventure classics such as Loom and Machinarium, and beautiful hand-drawn artwork created by a seasoned children’s book illustrator, charming characters and an intriguing narrative.
If point and click games are your go-to genre, this is one that should be in your library.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Making new friends is a big adventure.
Embark on a cozy adventure with Hello Kitty and Friends and restore an abandoned island to its former glory. Can you solve the mystery hidden within?
Hello Kitty Island Adventure scored our golden Two Thumbs Up:
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a wonderful combination of building friendships, questing, exploring, and collecting, all set in a bright and colourful world.
I wasn’t sure if the Hello Kitty cuteness and the daily nature of progress would work for me, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the game. Even though we are at the start of 2025, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a strong contender for one of my games of the year.
We’ve created a Beginner’s Guide to help you get the most from Friendship Island.

Into The Restless Ruins

A roguelike deckbuilder where you create the dungeon you fight through.
James delved Into The Restless Ruins
Into the Restless Ruins is a standout title in the modern roguelike scene. It’s clever blend of card-based dungeon building and survivor-style action creates a rhythm that’s as addictive as it is original. The Scottish folklore backdrop adds a unique flavour, and the mechanics evolve in meaningful ways as you progress. Minor quibbles about familiar pixel visuals are easy to overlook when the gameplay loop is this fresh.
Whether you’re here for the deckbuilding, the dungeon crawling, or just the thrill of a new kind of roguelike, this is one wish you’ll want to chase. A free demo is available on Steam, so there’s no excuse not to give it a shot.

It Takes Two

We’re Better Together
It Takes Two took top spot when James reviewed it
If you have someone else to play with I can not recommend this game enough. Heck this is a game I would go as far as to say it’s worth getting a console or PC for. The game pushes video games forward in the right direction and it’s a darn shame others haven’t taken note of this. A wholesome co-op experience that is guaranteed to entertain.
No DLC, no microtransactions, no exp, no bugs and utter gaming rubbish we so often see in games these days, just a good video game.
It Takes Two is not just one of the best games I’ve played this year. It’s one of the best video game experiences I have ever had, period.

Moonstone Island

Moonstone Island is a creature-collecting life-sim set in an open world with 100 islands to explore. Make friends, brew potions, collect Spirits, and test your strength in card-based encounters to complete your Alchemy training!
Shining a light on Moonstone Island, Mina concluded:
Moonstone Island is everything I wanted from a little farm simulation that’s also a Pokemon battler that’s also a deck-based system. It is everything I didn’t even know I wanted; the graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is soothing, the animations are polished, and the artwork is stunning. I love Moonstone Island and think you will love it here too.
It’s worth noting that most of the DLCs are also on sale.

My Little Universe

Go above and beyond the cosmos!
Paula launched into reviewing My Little Universe
I’ve had a blast with My Little Universe; it is a cosy worldbuilding collect-a-thon. It urges the player to explore further and discover what is on the next hex. My Little Universe is a wholesome, relaxing game for those who want the thrill of exploring and collecting infinite resources. Suitable for all ages in the family, it also has a very addictive gameplay loop and watching Orangey go to work and swing his tools is brilliant; I wish I had his energy!

Railway Empire – Nintendo Switch Edition

United States, 1830: ‘The New World’ is in its ascendancy. Industry is booming, and the race is on to establish the most dominant and powerful rail empire in all of North America. It’s time to outthink and outmaneuver your competitors as you lead your company into the 20th century!
Paula went all aboard for Railway Empire:
Railway Empire is a deep, engrossing simulation strategy game. Once you get the hang of the controls and the finer points of running a mega railway empire, you’ll spend many hours playing with trains. For train enthusiasts this is the game you need and for those of us that are looking for their next strategy simulation hit then look no further than Railway Empire!

Rakuen: Deluxe Edition

An award-winning indie adventure game about a hospitalized Boy who travels with his Mom to a beautiful fantasy world. Includes an extra game and a 3D animated film collection!
We couldn’t wish for better in Rakuen:
Rakuen is a very sweet, heartwarming game that will transport you to another world where you take control of your destiny. While Mr Saitou has a similar plot, it is a different game altogether, where you go on an adventure to reclaim your life. Both games were a joy to play, and I really enjoyed the story-driven gameplay. I recommend the deluxe edition to anyone who likes a good narrative RPG and solving puzzles. I give the deluxe edition a two thumbs up for the unique storylines and heart-tugging dialogue.

Slay the Spire

We fused card games and roguelikes together to make the best single player deckbuilder we could. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and Slay the Spire!
Elena was dealt a great hand when she reviewed Slay the Spire:
Slay the Spire is a fantastic roguelike deck-builder. It offers creative freedom to craft your deck—more player freedom than I’ve experienced in any roguelike game.
Since you can experience the Spire differently with its three characters (in future: four characters), the replay value is high, making it worth more than $25.
I highly recommend Spire to card-game lovers and anyone who can enjoy learning from failure and experimenting with strategies. But I would caution gamers who have a low tolerance for losing again and again.

Spiritfarer

Spiritfarer is a cozy management game about dying.
Paula helped ferry the deceased in Spiritfarer:
Spiritfarer is a positive look at death as all the characters make peace with both their life and death in their own time. The characters are charming, all have depth with stories to tell.
While some mini-games may feel tedious the more you do them, there are plenty of other tasks in the game to balance this out.
Playing Spiritfarer at this particular time in the mad and crazy world we live in is something everyone should do. As well as being entertaining and enjoyable to play Spiritfarer is hopeful, comforting, and positive and certainly big on delivering the ”feels”!

The Plucky Squire

Off the page and into adventure!
Paula jumped in and out of the pages and gave The Plucky Squire our top rating:
The Plucky Squire is more than just a clever idea; it’s a well-executed and enjoyable adventure. While its combat may feel a bit familiar, straightforward, and easy, the puzzle mechanics and seamless integration of 2D and 3D gameplay make this a standout experience.
The story, characters, and art style are endearing, pulling you into a magical world that constantly surprises and delights; I played the game with a constant smile on my face. It’s the kind of game that reminds you of the magic of childhood storybooks while offering modern, innovative gameplay

Townscaper

Instant town building toy.
Paula built big in Townscaper:
Townscaper is the grown-up equivalent of the latest children’s toy that all the kids are all playing with a Fidget Spinner. It is calming, relaxing, refreshing, and gives you creative control over the world you choose to make or just mess around with. I don’t have any niggles with the game, other than I think the addition of having little people appear on the paths that are created would be wonderful. I realise Townscaper will not be a game all gamers will like, but if you are curious you should at least give it a try.

TUNIC

Be Brave, Little Fox
James ventured into TUNIC
Tunic left a very positive impression on me. I haven’t enjoyed an adventure game like this in quite some time. Tunic cleverly drops the player in its world and just lets them discover things for themselves without feeling overbearing or confusing. It’s a feeling I don’t think I have felt since the good old retro days. Most of all I left most sessions with a smile whether I made progress or not. If that sounds good to you, then I strongly suggest checking it out.

Wytchwood

Lovingly rendered storybook art style Gather, collect, grow and craft bizarre ingredients Research and concoct devious spells and sorceries.
Wytchwood featured in both Paula and Mina’s Best Games of 2021.
If crafting, exploring and lots of humour are what you look for in a game, then Wytchwood is the game for you. I’ve certainly enjoyed my playthrough of the game. The story is interesting, the characters are cutesy, dark, and grotesque with humour sprinkled in for good measure and fantastic graphics to top it all off. Wytchwood is definitely one of my games of the year and it receives our highest score.
