The most wonderful time of the year…in gaming

I have always loved Christmas, it really is a wonderful time of the year. Early evenings, dark outside, candlelight inside, putting up the tree. There have been years that I started playing my Christmas music as early as October! And ever since I’ve had my iPad I’ve been in the habit of making sure that my background fits my Christmas mood. With the new Christmas homescreens in the Japanese eShop I could even make my Japanese 3DS cheerful with an Animal Crossing Christmas background.

In the App Store I’ve tried for years to find a nice app game dedicated to Christmas. I know it’s not an easy game to market because it will only be attractive to play for a short time. I’ve found some games that are a Holidays special, like Cut the Rope Christmas. I found one that’s dedicated to Christmas and mildly interesting to me, Santas Village, downloaded that one in 2011. And I tend to download it from the server again every year, to work on my village of elves again. Not a special game, just your usual city builder, but with a nice theme.

What is nice though is that most app games have a special Christmas theme. In HayDay, the animals are adorned with wintery accessories, and in Happy Street Santa rides through the shopping street with Rudolf. I must say that a game I mentioned before, Castaway Paradise, takes Christmas decoration to a whole new level. I had been wondering what the roped off areas where for in the game. Not for new houses, like in Animal Crossing, but for Christmas decorations! Nice touch!
