NIS America has announced that Village in the Shade, a new hand-painted farming simulation with a spooky twist, will launch on 27 October 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Arriving just before Halloween, the game blends relaxing countryside life with unsettling mysteries hidden beneath the surface.
What is Village in the Shade About?
Set in the Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu, players can grow crops, customise their home, fish, hunt, and build friendships with local residents. Traditional Japanese festivals and seasonal activities, such as cherry blossom viewing and summer celebrations, add to the village’s cosy atmosphere.
However, Kagatsu comes with a few strict rules: don’t speak to strangers, don’t leave the village, and never go out at night. Players can choose to uncover the village’s secrets or simply enjoy life while avoiding anything lurking in the shadows.

For those who prefer a more peaceful experience, the optional “Village in the Sunshine” mode removes the horror elements by preventing players from breaking the rules. This allows players to focus entirely on farming, fishing, gathering resources, and relaxing village life.
