Some Fixes for Distant Bloom
I can honestly say that one of my favourite games for this year is Distant Bloom on Steam. I loved it, as you can see in my review here. There were some little bugs, though, that didn’t hinder me, but it’s good to know the developer is on the ball. They have been fixed, and some quality-of-life improvements were added.
Building Cities in the High Mountains
In a surprise launch, Laysara: Summit Kingdom has come to Steam in Early Access. Developed by 3-person indie studio Quite OK Games, Laysara: Summit Kingdom is a challenging city-builder about managing settlements in the high mountains. Carefully plan your production chains, trade networks, and avalanche survival strategies to satisfy the needs of your three-caste society and make the Kingdom of Laysara thrive!
You can check out Paula’s Early Access Impressions for the game here.
Amber Isle and Paleofolk
Team 17, in collaboration with Northern Irish game developer Ambertail Games and supported by Northern Ireland Screen, has announced Amber Isle. Amber Isle is a shop management sim game centred around dinos. The game is expected on Steam and Nintendo Switch (no releasedate yet), and will whisk you away to a vibrant village inhabited by prehistoric creatures name Paleofolk. You will be the only shopkeeper and will help dinosaur customers, like microraptors requiring micro-chairs to plesiosaurs in need of waterproof paper.
You will experience customer service that includes haggling and making counter offers, and the goal is, of course, to turn your shop into a success. Plus, prevent Amber Isle from becoming a forgotten relic by befriending the locals and improving the village so Paleofolk will return to live there.
Developer Friedemann is Busy with SummerHouse
SummerHouse was another game I enjoyed immensely recently. It’s good to see that solo developer Friedemann is working behind the scenes to make it even better. Cross platform cloud save support is now added, so no more conflict with your Steam Deck, among other small adjustments. Plus, he is working on new building blocks!
Let’s School Coming to Consoles
The developer behind My Time At Sandrock and Portia, Pathea Games, is bringing their school management sim Let’s School to Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation consoles this Summer.
Let’s School is a simulation game where players step into the role of a school principal, and it’s already available on Steam (Paula’s review is here). The game gives you the freedom to construct buildings, develop diverse curriculums, and even hire or fire teachers. Customize every aspect of your school, from the decorations to the student uniforms, and create after-school clubs to enhance the educational experience.
Current Steam players have something to look forward to as well: an all-new free update titled ‘Riverside Haven’ launching on 11th April, which adds gamepad/controller support, as well as dozens of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements directly addressing fan feedback.
Future Fair in Fashion Dreamer
Marvelous Europe has released their fifth free content update for the Nintendo Switch-exclusive fashion and communication title, Fashion Dreamer. Fashion Dreamer’s free April ‘Future Fair’ update includes:
● Six new types of futuristic consumable patterns
● New hairstyle and eye colour options
● Six new photo frames and two new poses to showcase tomorrow’s trends
● Four new types of showroom decoration additions
● Other useful items like creative keys
● 11 additional patterns and gacha items — available immediately after downloading the update!
Omega Crafter is Expanding
Omega Crafter is expanding its content during Early Access. Kalina recently reviewed the game and felt that it offers some exciting ideas for the genre, though she did have her misgivings. Good to see that Preferred Networks keeps on adding and tweaking.
New biomes will be introduced in this open-world survival crafting game, dangerous dungeons, and enhanced automation features. Players can also expect new enemies and equipment to enhance their adventure. These updates aim to provide a richer experience in the continuously developing virtual world of Omega Crafter.
Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya Coming to Switch
Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya, the cosy restaurant simulator set in the Touhou Project universe from developer Dichroic Purpilion and publisher Phoenixx, has already been on Steam for some years. The good news is that the game, which has very positive reviews on Steam, is coming to the Switch. It will be launched on May 2nd and will include all six DLC packs. It will be $26.99 and has a Teen rating. If you’re unfamiliar with it as I am, what can you expect?
Mystia Lorelei’s beloved tavern has met a tragic fate, but the resilient restaurateur is not backing down! In her latest adventure, players will start from the ground up with a modest food cart amidst a towering mountain of debt, striving to restore her once-celebrated restaurant to its legendary status. By day, players will gather the freshest ingredients to craft exquisite recipes, preparing for the evening’s surge of patrons. Night brings the challenge of satisfying a diverse crowd with unique tastes and budgets, aiming to keep a combo multiplier growing through excellent service.
The game also features over 30 special guest characters from the Touhou universe, each bringing their own culinary preferences and the potential for unique rewards. This engaging culinary journey combines strategy, customer service, and the charm of the Touhou community to create a compelling gameplay experience.
Release Date SunnySide
Maximum Entertainment and indie developer RainyGames have announced the release date for their new title, SunnySide. This innovative farming and life simulation game is set to launch on PC on May 24, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions following on July 10. Sadly, no Switch version in sight…
SunnySide is set in a picturesque, diverse Japanese town and features a rich anime-inspired cast, modern farm-sim gameplay, and a unique cosy turn-based combat system. Players can grow over a hundred different crops and interact with more than 25 characters through an innovative “hang out” system, balancing relationship building with farm management. The game also offers a demo covering the first ten days, available now on Steam. Additionally, physical versions for PlayStation 5 will be available starting July 12th.
A little more about SunnySide:
You’ve just purchased your first plot of land in an ageing post town in the heart of the Japanese countryside. Now, it’s up to you to create a homestead you can be proud of. Use modern technology to balance time between your new farm life and joining the local community. As well as fulfilling your homesteading dreams, SunnySide sweeps you up on an adventure to rediscover the forgotten past of a new friend…After a thousand-year-old sassy survey drone named Sparky rescues you from a cave-in, you’re tasked with helping this new companion retrieve their lost memories and complete the last mission they remember: learn more about humans.
