Some Fixes for Distant Bloom

I can honestly say that one of my favourite games for this year is Distant Bloom on Steam. I loved it, as you can see in my review here. There were some little bugs, though, that didn’t hinder me, but it’s good to know the developer is on the ball. They have been fixed, and some quality-of-life improvements were added.

This scene from Distant Bloom shows the character traversing a surreal landscape with bee-like creatures atop beehive-shaped platforms under a vibrant rainbow. Various alien flora in bright colors sprawl across the terrain with a prominent blue and orange plant in the foreground. The player's inventory shows a shovel, indicating gardening gameplay. Building Cities in the High Mountains

In a surprise launch, Laysara: Summit Kingdom has come to Steam in Early Access. Developed by 3-person indie studio Quite OK Games, Laysara: Summit Kingdom is a challenging city-builder about managing settlements in the high mountains. Carefully plan your production chains, trade networks, and avalanche survival strategies to satisfy the needs of your three-caste society and make the Kingdom of Laysara thrive!

You can check out Paula’s Early Access Impressions for the game here.

Amber Isle and Paleofolk

Team 17, in collaboration with Northern Irish game developer Ambertail Games and supported by Northern Ireland Screen, has announced Amber Isle. Amber Isle is a shop management sim game centred around dinos. The game is expected on Steam and Nintendo Switch (no releasedate yet), and will whisk you away to a vibrant village inhabited by prehistoric creatures name Paleofolk. You will be the only shopkeeper and will help dinosaur customers, like microraptors requiring micro-chairs to plesiosaurs in need of waterproof paper.

You will experience customer service that includes haggling and making counter offers, and the goal is, of course, to turn your shop into a success. Plus, prevent Amber Isle from becoming a forgotten relic by befriending the locals and improving the village so Paleofolk will return to live there.

On the left, a grey triceratops wearing a white shirt with a tie is holding a clipboard. In the center, a blue triceratops in a red bandana is cheerfully greeting a friendly orange tyrannosaurus rex dressed in a light blue shirt. Above them, to the right, a flying pterodactyl wearing a pilot's cap is descending with a smile. Behind the characters, the scene is set in a tropical village with thatched-roof huts, various prehistoric plants, and a wooden sign that reads "AMBER ISLE" in bold letters. Developer Friedemann is Busy with SummerHouse

SummerHouse was another game I enjoyed immensely recently. It’s good to see that solo developer Friedemann is working behind the scenes to make it even better. Cross platform cloud save support is now added, so no more conflict with your Steam Deck, among other small adjustments. Plus, he is working on new building blocks!

Let’s School Coming to Consoles

The developer behind My Time At Sandrock and Portia, Pathea Games, is bringing their school management sim Let’s School to Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation consoles this Summer.

Let’s School is a simulation game where players step into the role of a school principal, and it’s already available on Steam (Paula’s review is here). The game gives you the freedom to construct buildings, develop diverse curriculums, and even hire or fire teachers. Customize every aspect of your school, from the decorations to the student uniforms, and create after-school clubs to enhance the educational experience.

Current Steam players have something to look forward to as well: an all-new free update titled ‘Riverside Haven’ launching on 11th April, which adds gamepad/controller support, as well as dozens of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements directly addressing fan feedback.

Omega Crafter is Expanding

Omega Crafter is expanding its content during Early Access. Kalina recently reviewed the game and felt that it offers some exciting ideas for the genre, though she did have her misgivings. Good to see that Preferred Networks keeps on adding and tweaking.

New biomes will be introduced in this open-world survival crafting game, dangerous dungeons, and enhanced automation features. Players can also expect new enemies and equipment to enhance their adventure. These updates aim to provide a richer experience in the continuously developing virtual world of Omega Crafter.

A playful robot character, resembling a yellow bee with a single big eye and two antennae, is displayed in the top left corner, with the 'Omega Crafter' logo above. The text reads 'What's Next for Omega Crafter,' followed by a list of new content and improvements organized into categories: Grammi, Field, Battle, Building, and System Improvement. Each category lists enhancements such as new coding blocks, biomes, enemies, and buildings, alongside user interface and performance improvements. Notably mentioned are new fishing features, a battle simulator, and a cartography table. The note at the bottom states that the roadmap will be revised based on user feedback. Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya Coming to Switch

Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya, the cosy restaurant simulator set in the Touhou Project universe from developer Dichroic Purpilion and publisher Phoenixx, has already been on Steam for some years.  The good news is that the game, which has very positive reviews on Steam, is coming to the Switch. It will be launched on May 2nd and will include all six DLC packs. It will be $26.99 and has a Teen rating. If you’re unfamiliar with it as I am, what can you expect?

Mystia Lorelei’s beloved tavern has met a tragic fate, but the resilient restaurateur is not backing down! In her latest adventure, players will start from the ground up with a modest food cart amidst a towering mountain of debt, striving to restore her once-celebrated restaurant to its legendary status. By day, players will gather the freshest ingredients to craft exquisite recipes, preparing for the evening’s surge of patrons. Night brings the challenge of satisfying a diverse crowd with unique tastes and budgets, aiming to keep a combo multiplier growing through excellent service.

The game also features over 30 special guest characters from the Touhou universe, each bringing their own culinary preferences and the potential for unique rewards. This engaging culinary journey combines strategy, customer service, and the charm of the Touhou community to create a compelling gameplay experience.

This image displays a tranquil scene from the video game SunnySide. The sun hangs low in the sky, partially obscured by clouds, casting a warm glow over a picturesque landscape. A river, reflecting the sky above, flows beneath a bridge, while a mixture of evergreen and cherry blossom trees in full pink bloom line the riverbanks. Snow-capped mountains rise in the distance, and the bridge itself features a modern design with metal railings, hinting at a blend of nature and civilization within the game.
