YvoCaro Plays: bugs in games and the grandfather paradox

Time to sit down for another YvoCaro Plays. As always, these blurbs are mostly about the video games I’m currently playing. Unedited thoughts that spring up in my mind, mostly game related. And sometimes a random train of thoughts starting with the game and ending somewhere completely different!

If you like these bits of gaming thoughts you can find the previous ones here

As you have seen in last week’s articles, I played two games; Stranded Sails and Destiny Connect. Both good games in their own way and I had a great time making reviews for them. Now for the things that didn’t end up in the review!

Stranded Sails saving issues

As I stated in my review I didn’t have any issues or bugs in Stranded Sails. My experience was a smooth one, but I know from reading their Discord channel I saw other reviewers were having issues; mainly about save files and losing progress.

I was wondering why my sailing was smooth, and I think I know the answer: when playing a game, I keep it running while the Switch is in the dock at night. I hardly ever turn the game off, so as it now seems there was something amiss with the automatic saving function. Which would explain why I wasn’t affected. fortunately, an update has gone out to rectify it.

It does make you wonder how it is that games nowadays come with a day one update, or have persistent bugs that need ironing out when the game is already on the gamers’ consoles. Is it because developers know it can easily be remedied in their haste to release a game? Or are games nowadays so intricate that these things just happen? What do you think?

The Grandfather Paradox

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock-Travelers is all about time travel. This is great, as it was always one of my favorite plots in comic books like Suske & Wiske when Professor Barabas let them travel in the time machine. Or in movies like Back to the future. You could say that as I’ve been watching Star Trek for almost 50 years I grew up on the concept that time travel is possible.

As the story in Destiny Connect gets underway Sherry is joined by her father as a teenager and other family members from the future. And though it made for some nice gameplay I couldn’t help but be alarmed. The red flashlight went off in my head and sirens blared. Beware, the timeline is contaminated!

After all, don’t the writers know that the grandfather paradox is to be held in awe? Changing the past particularly is to be avoided at all cost, otherwise the present will cease to exist! Mr. Spock would never approve of that, 😂.
