Well, the week is over again. We have a lovely long weekend ahead for Easter. As I mentioned before, the Dutch have the right idea: we have second Christmas Day, Second Easter Day and even two days off for Whitsun! And what’s even better, my daughter is on her way home for a long weekend.
Won’t be easy to let her go again come Monday, but I’m gonna enjoy our time together. First though, time to sit down for another YvoCaro Plays. As always, these blurbs are mostly about the video games I’m currently playing. Unedited thoughts that spring up in my mind, mostly game related. And sometimes a random train of thoughts starting with the game and ending somewhere completely different.
If you like these bits of gaming thoughts you can find the previous ones here.
See that tree? It would give a lot of wood!
There are games I should be playing. Games that I need to get going in, to be able to make a review for you. I should be working on site business, think of new content we could bring to you. I should be active on social media, connecting with developers and readers and having fun there. But all I can think of is playing My Time at Portia in whatever little space of free time I have. You know you are truly addicted to a game when you see game-related opportunities all around you in real life.
Ever since I started playing the game, thoughts swirl around in my head. Where can I get more wood? Will this tree grow back when I chop it? How on earth am I going to find more iron ore? (Well, technically not on earth I suppose 😆).
The chores my little gaming character faces are tasking. Still, I came in fifth place in the ranking of Workshops. And considering all the important jobs I have piling up I do wonder what the other Workshops are getting done to merit a higher ranking! Build a bridge to reach the island? YvoCaro is on it. Build a Loudspeaker to chase away the Panbats in the Tree Farm. Make a generator to get the spark back into the Cave. On it. Even finding Scraps the dog for Polly, as YvoCaro can never say no to adorable little girls.
Finally an all-round simulation game in your pocket
I’m just kidding of course. I love my time in Portia. I know there is some negativity out there about the game. Sure, if you expect an ace experience like you get in the world of Hyrule in Breath of the Wild, My Time at Portia still has things to adjust. But considering this game has been made by a small studio and costs less than half of BOTW, it deserves some consideration. Updates getting things right will be made I’m sure.
The most important reason why My Time at Portia is so great? It’s the only game of its kind on the Nintendo Switch that ticks all the boxes. Stardew Valley is great too, but not everyone is into the retro look. And added to all of that: you can play Portia on the go in Handheld Mode. Amazing!
If you want to know more, the review for my Time at Portia is available on LadiesGamers.com (find it here ). As well as a Beginners Guide to get you started. Because if you are used to Harvest Moon games, there are some distinctive differences. Read it at the start of your game. It will save you a lot of running around without a clue!
Have you been playing the game? Let me know what you think, I’m always curious to know!
You’re enthusiasm is very contagious
Lol, I’m sorry…but I do really like it. However, unless you are sure you have the time to get sucked into it, don’t go for it yet. Maybe upcoming updates will iron out some of the kinks that are still in there!
I’m dying to get that game…as for me stardew valley was a no go…i have it on my switch…after all of the Harvest Moon games Dew just would not do!!
Yeah, I know what you mean. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Stardew and spent many hours in the game. But I’m no fan of the graphical style. I like the graphics for Portia (or Harvest Moon) much better.
I really like playing my time at Portia but when I tried going into desert ruins I get an error message from the game
Awww that’s a pity! I take it you can’t progress? I must say it’s been quite a while since I played the game, back then it had some bugs. I hope they have been ironed out now!
