A review code was used, and many thanks to Secret Mode.

I got to review A Little to the Left in 2022, and I got to return to it for the DLC Cupboards and Drawers. I was super excited when I heard about the release of a new DLC coming soon, and I immediately asked for a code for it. I got my hands on it a little early, and I was excited to see if Seeing Stars DLC would be as good as the originals.

The Gameplay of A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars

The answer to this puzzle is pretty corny.

Much like both the original game and the previous DLC, A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars is a point-and-click puzzle game. You have to organize a whole bunch of objects, make visual patterns, reorganize, and rethink. All the objects are unique and lovingly rendered; almost every puzzle has a variety of answers, and you get one star for each completed puzzle to unlock harder puzzles at the end.

This DLC adds another 35 puzzles to solve, each of them having one to five solutions. Seeing Stars focuses mostly on household objects being arranged in several different ways, from cupcakes to pens, bells to combs. There are a whole bunch more cats as well that visit during the course of the DLC.

The Challenge Level of Seeing Stars Puzzles

Much like the base game, A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars has a few puzzles with solutions that are so weird, but I’m not sure I would have been able to complete them without the hint system. The hints are available for every solution in the puzzle, so if you have three possible solutions, there will be three pages of hints to show you how to solve each one. So, even if you can’t figure out one or two of the solutions, you will most likely be able to come up with one of the solutions and move on to the next puzzle.

Excellent hint system.

So, no matter how challenging you find these types of puzzles, you will be able to make your way through all of them, unlocking all the levels and solving each one completely. I completed most of them without hints, and I went back and erased a little here and there until I figured out what the missing answer was.

How Long Does A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars Take to Beat?

All in all, you’ll spend about two or three hours to get everything done. There are around 35 new puzzles and a couple of chapters that are just adorable cutscenes of kittens rolling around. It is so wholesome and adorable, and while the DLC is pretty short, it’s well worth the amount of money you’ll be paying for the add-on.

I Love This Game So Much

I have been singing the praises of A Little to the Left since 2022. The cats are adorable little mischief-makers; the animations are smooth and polished. The music, the puzzles… everything about A Little to the Left is near perfect, minus a few esoteric solutions. I didn’t love the ending of the base game, as I felt it dragged on a little too long. Cupboards and Drawers solved every issue I had with the base game. So, how does Seeing Stars compare to the other two? It’s just as good, if not better.

Look at these fur babies!

I have had a wonderful time with each aspect of A Little to the Left so far, and Seeing Stars is just another triumph for Max Inferno. The colors, the music, the sound design, the effects and movements, the interactions, the cats, the puzzles- I really can’t even begin to tell you how beautiful I think this title is. I am so honoured that I was able to play this amazing game, not just the base but also the DLCs.

The Cons of Seeing Stars

I didn’t have any issues with my playthroughs of Seeing Stars. I didn’t experience any bugs or issues, I didn’t have any problems really. There were a couple of solutions I would never have figured out without the game’s help, but that was true of all the parts of A Little to the Left so far. The hint system more than makes up for it, and the polish of this game also helps to ensure you’re going to have a good time, even if some of the puzzles are really hard.

I think my biggest complaint is the same complaint I have with most games like this: it’s too short! I wish I had a million more hours of A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars to play waiting for me. And if your main issue with a game is you wish there were more of it, it’s probably a pretty great game!

Conclusion

A troupe of cats walks through a green room.
A whole herd of kittens!

If you loved the base game and the other DLC, you’ll dig A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars. The developers have once again nailed the aesthetic, the music, and the animations and made new and interesting puzzles while they were at it. Seeing Stars is a beautiful, thoughtful, and challenging addition to the original lineup of puzzles.

I think this DLC is amazing, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you like games like Unpacking, Gorogoa, or Storyteller, you will dig not only A Little to the Left but also the two DLCs!

Final Verdict: I Like it a Lot
