Ben’s Animal Crossing Plans

Hi all, did I mention I liked Animal Crossing? Haha. Yvonne actually suggested writing up a little something about what we wanted to call our towns and why so I decided that I would go on a little ramble.

I Hereby Dub Thee…

With each game, the name I used the most, both initially and during my 2nd (or 3rd) playthroughs was Ordon. GameCube, Wii & 3DS all shared the same name, taken from the home town of Link in The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It being my favourite game at the time (and still in my top 5), it also led to my town tune and design work to be full of Zelda references. Better yet, unlocking the Link outfit in the Wii and 3DS versions was the cherry on the cake.

On my most recent play through of New Leaf however, I decided on a change that I do plan on carrying over to New Horizons. Expect plenty of pictures and updates from, Starfall. The name wasn’t taken from anywhere I know of, but it was inspired by choosing something I could use for designs, in this case, stars! I’m a creature of habit, and coming up with a new name after years of the same was a big deal. Not to mention that it was only on a secondary play through so I want to give the name and theme a time to shine during my primary (and hopefully only) play of New Horizons.

My Play Style

Based on my usual habits, and the new features revealed thus far, I expect how I approach island life will be largely the same as any other Animal Crossing. My primary goal is to upgrade my home the most. Having plenty of space to display a few of my favourite themes (modern, ice, Halloween) with each room also boasting features of a typical home (kitchen, lounge, bedroom). We haven’t seen much of the player house in footage shown thus far aside from the tent and basic upgrade. I was a fan of New Leaf’s layout, but having even more rooms or even floors would be great!

Next up on the agenda is filling out the game’s encyclopaedia. Another feature not yet shown, that surely is safe to expect its return. This was something I always really loved about the series. Hearing and seeing all the creatures during the Summer season is definitely a highlight of the Animal Crossing experience so its Spring release means there won’t be long to wait. It’s a great feeling once complete as it usually requires around of year of frequent play to see through. It usually marks the winding down of my time with the game though as over the space of a year you usually have experienced the majority of what the game has to offer (events, seasons and unlocks). A proposal of mine was to have shining versions of each creature, like Shiny Pokémon, that are worth more bells and perhaps come with an alternate pun / fact. If they too were extremely rare I feel it would be a cool way of extend this particular element of gameplay.

Finally, I’m really looking forward to meeting up with friends and hopefully yourselves in-game. On the Wii I spent loads of time with Evriun and Jonah just noodling around and chatting. My friends and my local gaming scene came to visit my 3DS town. Both were amazing experiences, and being able to replicate them is something I’m really excited about. I like creating patterns and things for people to see in my town, while you can pop onto YouTube and easily find others who do it on such an intense level, that’s part of why strong multiplayer appeals so much to me. I sincerely hope in particular the island tours return in some form, and that joining together is a smooth and straightforward process.

See You In Starfall

Thanks for checking out this article and hopefully we’ll see one another in-game really soon! Do let us know what you’re looking forward to and the thoughts you have about your new island!
