Caduceus Quest follows a young pre-med student who is just about to start an internship at the local hospital. In this game, you will have to interact with patients, talk to them in the right way, and then test and diagnose their issues.

What is Gameplay Like in Caduceus Quest?

The scientific method in Caduceus Quest.
You need to use the scientific method to figure out what is wrong with Grandma.

Caduceus Quest has a lot going on. There is a card game you need to play in order to interact with patients properly. These allow you to attempt to get people to disclose health information by flattering, informing, and coaxing people in the right order in response to what they are saying. Once you have connected with the patient, you’ll be able to ask them health questions and then diagnose them with a variety of tests.

The game is fairly complex. Not only do you have to figure out what to say to everyone to get them to want to work with you, but you also need to make sure you are getting all the information you need for a proper diagnosis.

The card game in Caduceus Quest is about communicating with patients.
The diagnostic chat with patients looks like a card game.

This Game Would Be Cool If…

I had a lot of issues with Caduceus QuestWhen I tried to play it, I had an issue with hitboxes being really small and awkward for interactable items; for example, there is a quest in the house at the beginning where you need to go into Grandma’s room and look at the TV, but the place you interact with the TV is far away, by the door into her room.

A young woman is talking to her grandmother about her health in Caduceus Quest.
Oh no, what’s wrong with Grandma!?

There was an issue with the card game tutorial as well. All the instructions were front-loaded into the game instead of interspersed through the first card game, making it a lot more difficult to parse this complex mechanic. I managed to figure it out as I got through it for the most part, but the tutorial wasn’t great.

A game-breaking bug also seemed to have occurred during one of the first quests of Caduceus Quest. You have to do some diagnostics on your Grandma, and then you need to find the doctor and chat with her. Both times I played through, the game stopped working properly, repeating the interaction with Grandma over and over and not letting me do anything else. The worst part is that Caduceus Quest didn’t save any of my progress, so I had to start over when this bug hit me the first time. After the second time, I was pretty well finished with Caduceus Quest.

After this quest locked up, Simone just floated around instead of her normal walk cycle.

Conclusion

Caduceus Quest is pretty, has a neat concept, and would make a great informational game. However, it is pretty unplayable as it currently stands. I still have yet to figure out how to get by the talking to the doctor quest because it just doesn’t seem to work. Overall, this could be such a cool game that I hope they fix it. But as it stands right now, it’s not worth taking a look at.

Final Verdict: I’m Not Sure
