Recently, my wife has played Pic a Pix Deluxe and Pic a Pix Pieces a great deal. I would go as far to say that she’s displaying signs of addiction! Let me explain
Just last September my beloved Ruth gave birth to our 7th child. Since then, she’s been busy feeding day and night, changing nappies etc. Previously, she would spend time reading news apps or watching craft videos via Youtube. Where games are concerned, she often expressed her dislike of them, and I never felt the need to have more than one console between us.
Times have changed
It’s Friday afternoon; I’ve just finished the school run, and I notice that my Switch no longer sits in its dock. Where is it? I look across the room towards my wife’s favourite spot and see it placed on the chair arm. Guess what? My wife lifted the Switch from its dock, navigated the Switch U.I, and selected Pic a Pix from my game selection. Now, to a gamer, this fails to sound daunting, but my wife prior to Pic a Pix felt incapable of performing such a task.
There’s more
Last night, I had a movie night with my eldest daughters, and Ruth decided to tuck my youngest Son into bed and play Pic a Pix. While upstairs, she received a notice about exceeding the day’s playtime duration and was required to enter in a parental code. After briefly helping her, she’s now able to use the console’s parental function and unlock the Switch without help.
There’s even more
Having run the battery down, Ruth actually asked me to charge the console. What! Where’s my wife? What’s happened to her? Has an alien race kidnapped the real Ruth? Has she been replaced by a clone? Is the ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ a true story after all? Earlier today, I actually had to ask her where my Switch was. The idea that Ruth now thinks about carrying the Switch around marks an incredible change of behaviour.
Could she really be a Gamer?
I suppose she is for now, and perhaps, this small taste of Pic a Pix may lead her to similarly enjoy other titles. I don’t think she’ll be playing platformers, RPG’s or shoot-em-ups anytime soon, but I think a spark has been lit and I’m interested to see how Ruth will progress. 🙂
Perhaps you can share a similar story. I’m also interested to know if readers have ideas regarding titles she may like. If so, feel free to leave your stories and game suggestions in the comments below.

If you ever feel like she may need an intervention just so you can get your Switch back, introduce her to Pixel Art! Is a mobile app available on iOS or Android. It’s a similar “paint by numbers” concept but some of the pictures get quite detailed! I’m totally addicted to it. 🙂

I introduced Ruth to Pixel Art and……. She didn’t like it. The struggle for the Switch continues. Lol
Haha!
Hi Jonah, I don’t have a similar story but I really liked reading yours!
Is ‘Pix a Pix’ like Picross on the DS? I loved that one.
It is but with a slight twist. I have a review coming up very soon. If you love picross, you’ll love Pic a Pix.
