Orange Island is the name of an upcoming platforming video game made in an 8-bit style. It is being funded via Kickstarter to fund the PC and Mac development. It already reached its initial funding goal, and the NES homebrew port! One of the stretch goals is for a Nintendo Switch port if they reach £ 49,000.
Pastel Island Adventuring

Four friends travel to Orange Island for a summer vacation, and after spending time with Mary, they go on a journey to revive the island’s orange trees.

It is expected to have at least six hours of gameplay, and will have five playable characters (including little old Mary). With an extra possible one the next stretch goal. Other game features are the characters individual abilities, puzzles, side quests in various locales and shmup segments. There will also be storytelling through cutscenes and character interaction.
The game is designed with the intent to be as NES authentic as possible with 8-bit graphics, chiptune audio and retro gameplay. This also ties in with the NES cartridge release they have now funded.
Demo and Stretch Goals

There is a pre-alpha demo available from this link. The Youtuber DariaPlaysRPGs did a demo impressions of it which is how I found out about it.
While the Kickstarter still has two weeks left before funding closes there is still a bit away to reach the Nintendo Switch port goal.
If you pledge from the Navel Orange Islander (£10) or above you will get a digital copy of the game on PC or Mac, and it looks as if the stretch goals for Nintendo Switch releases you might also get a digital copy for the Nintendo Switch. If you’re interested in the physical NES cartridge then you’ll have to start at at least the Orange Islander (£45). Some of the more expensive reward tiers have already been filled up but one left at £100 allows you to write an in game letter.
Orange You Glad

Orange Island has a very cute art style that slightly reminds me of Kirby’s Adventure (being a late pastel NES game). As well as nice music. I like that it has multiple playable characters with different stats, giving you reason to go through the same areas to reach higher places and such. As well as new abilities and weapons you unlock during the game. There is also supposed to be different endings as well, meaning it will have more reason to replay the game. I look forward to seeing it’s completion and hope it meets the Nintendo Switch goal. You can find more about it here.
Thanks for the article Paige.
Orange Island looks really good!
I’m not really into platformers, but I love everything else. The way it looks, the music, the ‘feel of the game’, and all the RPG elements and story telling.
They have now raised 44k, so another 5k and the Switch version is unlocked.
Not sure if I’m gonna back, but I’m very happy to see the Kickstarter doing so well and that it’s probably coming to the Switch!
I finally decided to back the Kickstarter!
Like I said before, I don’t really play platformers, but the game manages to peak my interest anyway.
It’s so charming, and reminds me of playing Super Mario Bros 2 with a girlfriend in my youth.
It smashed the Switch stretch goals and is also coming to the PS4.
2 Other Stretch Goals that are unlocked and I like a lot are : ‘Extra playable character’ and ‘New Game + with extra ending’.
That’s cool!
