Do you remember the classic board game Snakes and Ladders? I have fond memories of playing it, even against myself, and that worked okay because it was all luck and randomness. Dadoo: Twists, Turns, and Mischiefs is an online multiplayer game, set to deliver the same risky chances, with the addition of cards to play to boost yourself or hinder your opponents.

The Customization and Characters

Dadoo A reel of in-game items, such as a character skin and fancy decorated dice, show in the Cosmetics section of the shop. The current amount of currencies owned displays to the top right, and other ways of sorting the shop are beneath.

So far, there are not that many different levels or characters to choose from, but the amount of detail in the designs is very impressive. Each character has its own inherent passive skill for Dadoo: Twists, Turns, and Mischiefs, which makes it fun to play with strategizing. The available skins for customizing your look are pretty cool to explore and collect. You can even choose different dice to roll, just for looks. And they do look nice. Limited-time event skins have already started being rolled out, which will help the game keep attention.

Controls and UI of Dadoo: Twists, Turns, and Mischiefs

Dadoo An isometric overhead view of a board game in play, with a variety of colorful spaces to land on and paths to choose. Icons line the screen to show the player's cards currently in hand, how much energy they currently have, information about each player, menu access, and more. Icons like bear traps and snowflakes display what will be the consequence of landing on their particular space.
A game in progress.

At first, I was concerned when there was no way to play Dadoo using the buttons of my Steam Deck. Thankfully, it all goes smoothly with the touch screen! I also tried the app version of Dadoo on my phone, which is a delightfully seamless experience. Mouse controls are another option. It’s easy to navigate gameplay and all of the menus. You can confidently pick this up. Very polished, with a professional look and feel.

Multiplayer Appeal

Dadoo Another round of play in progress, this time in an icy setting. Different kinds of spaces are included, such as slick ice and cracked ice.
It’s pretty cool here!

The option to play with a friends list has been promised but has not yet been implemented. That function will be a huge addition to the fun of the game. For now, you join random lobbies of strangers. Communication is limited to emotes, so you don’t have to worry about any toxic players being inappropriate here. The emotes are cute and easy to use, so though limited, they do add to the experience. Hopefully, the friends mechanic will come soon; with Dadoo on Steam and the mobile app, it could be a great way to kill some time together between other activities.

Staying Power

Dadoo A menu shows a group of cards on the left, and another group of cards on the right. A pop-up window from the tutorial explains that this is where you choose which eight cards from your collection will be your deck that you use in the gameplay.
What strategy should we use?

The collecting of cards for your card deck and customizing to suit your play style are very fine features that give a feeling of complexity to what could be a very simple game. There is not a large variety of abilities, but that helps keep it fair across all players. Another feature I really appreciate in Dadoo is the daily quests. Checking in to gather rewards could make for a fun break in your daily grind.

Dadoo Buttons for navigating the game surround the edges of the image, darkened a bit behind a highlighted window that displays DAILY TASKS. There are check boxes beside particular goals to accomplish.
I want my bonuses!

Conclusion

All signs point to this being a winner of a game, from the thought-out deck system to the fun characters. Dadoo: Twists, Turns, and Mischiefs plays as well as you would expect from even a top-tier developer without much lag or trouble with lobbies. Everything works smoothly and brings smiles! However, with rounds being pretty brief and no way to play with anyone but strangers yet, the appeal fades quickly for now. Hopefully, we can look forward to updates to Dadoo: Twists, Turns, and Mischiefs and enjoy returning to a fuller experience.

Final Verdict: I Like it. I like it
