Harry Potter Wizards Unite

The rumors have been flying for some time about a Harry Potter game in the same vein as Pokémon Go. Strangely enough, the developer insisted it was a hoax, but now we know better. We finally have confirmation. The next Niantic game after Pokémon Go is called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

Together with Warner Bros. Interactive, Niantic will bring the mobile game to iOS and Android. Based once again in augmented reality it will allow players to learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods to team up with others and fight legendary beasts.

Here’s part of what Niantic founder John Hanke said on the company’s official blog:

“We’re incredibly excited to announce this next step in the evolution of AR mobile entertainment. With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will leverage the full stack of the Niantic Platform while also providing an opportunity to pioneer all new technology and gameplay mechanics.”

Niantic first game that changed AR gaming for good was Ingress, and this new one will fit in nicely to what Ingress laid down as a basis. Roaming the real world collecting power-ups, defending locations and exploring their environment. It seems almost ready-made for use of fantasy spell casting to replace Ingress’ science-fiction special forces veneer

I don’t know about you, but as a HP fan I will surely give this game a try. I enjoyed Pokémon Go for a long time, and I’m sure this will be a great one too! 93CE6F19-A9D6-4CB1-B645-278EADF97705
