MakeRoom is a room-design game filled with tons of different furniture, colors, and levels to place these cute items into. As you progress, you unlock new items to decorate each space with.
What is MakeRoom Like to Play?
MakeRoom is an item-placement game that has several modes. You can do a free mode that allows you to make a space from scratch, there is a object creation mode where you can make your own furniture or other items, and there is a menu of pre-made levels.
First up is the custom mode; you can start with a little patch of grass, a camper van, or an empty room. You get access to a massive catalogue of items to decorate the place, and you can make little vignettes of new and interesting spaces. I created this little garden from an empty plot; you can easily move items, change their sizes, and alter their coloring as well to make every inch of the space perfect. There is no grid to snap to, so you can line everything up exactly the way you want to, even if that means objects are inside of other objects.

There is also a unique item creator where you get boxes, planks, and other shapes to make your own chairs, beds, decorations, and appliances. The tool is fairly comprehensive, allowing you to change colors of items, distort shapes and items, and set them up exactly the way you want them to look. Then you can upload them to the Steam Workshop for others to use as well.
The last mode is made up of all the pre-made levels. The little house logo guy will pop up in the corner and tell you what to do to complete the space, and you unlock new items by completing each one. For example, there is a meditation space that unlocks more yoga items, and a vampire’s home that will give you Halloween items. It’s not timed or anything; it’s just levels about fixing spaces.

The Pros of MakeRoom
MakeRoom is one of those games that gives you complete freedom to make whatever you want. It’s both a boon and a curse, because there is so much freedom, it can be a little overwhelming at first, but it is a good feeling overall. You can make just about anything you want, and that’s super cool. All the items have this soft look to them so all the different items go well with the others even when they aren’t the same style.
You have a little house icon that shows up in the tutorial and the premade levels that gives you encouragement and tasks to do. He is a little friend that you can actually pet that lives in the corner, and he’s surprisingly cute.

The Cons of MakeRoom
I didn’t have a whole lot of issues with MakeRoom. It is exactly what it says it is: a relaxing game with relaxing music with no timers, no stress, and complete creativity allowed. You get to decorate little spaces, make objects, and complete tasks in a very chill environment. The vibes are so nice in the game.
I found the object creation menu to be super overwhelming at first though, and I feel like MakeRoom could have given me a little more guidance in that space. However, it was so useful and creative and fun that I ended up playing with it until I got it.

Other than that, I didn’t have a single issue with MakeRoom. No bugs, no issues, just wholesome, relaxing decorating.
Conclusion
If you like decorating games that have very little guidance and won’t tell you what to do, MakeRoom is a perfect game for you. It’s cozy, it’s aesthetic, and the vibes are on point. I had no issues with the game really, and I think there are loads of creative types out there who would love this game a lot.

I can’t recommend MakeRoom enough. It’s almost perfect, and I look forward to playing it again once the community has had the opportunity to make a bunch more items and put them up for others to download and play with.
Final Verdict: I Like it a Lot.
