RigidGems Museum is a unique gaming experience that is all about mining, cutting, and learning about precious stones and gems. Not only will you learn where you can find some of these stones, but you can also learn about flaws, markets, and other little tidbits.

All About Rocks

To be completely transparent, I am not a rock person. I don’t enjoy jewellery, the idea of mining, cutting gems, or making baubles for others. I’ve never been super interested in geology like this. However, I found RigidGems Museum fascinating.

A map shows where you can mine and what rocks you can get in RigidGems Museum.
These are the mines you can dig for around the world; you can select mines by type of gems or choose mines by location.

RigidGems Museum focuses on buying, finding, and mining precious minerals, bringing them home, cutting them to perfection, and then selling them or using them to complete quests. It’s a relaxing dive into this world, giving all sorts of fun information on each stone, giving you an idea of where these stones can be mined, and information on what the different kinds of cuts are.

You begin RigidGems Museum with some money, places to mine, and the ability to cut gems that you have dug up. You select the location you want to mine in, and each location has specific kinds of stones that can be found there. There is a sort of echo-locator that you click around to look for stones, and then you pick up the raw gems that have the right weight, inclusions, color, etc.

After that, you can choose to cut or sell them from your inventory. If you have a quest active, you can cut for that as well. All the while, you have some relaxing background music playing as you get your gems ready.

The Pros of RigidGems Museum

There is a lot to like in RigidGems Museum. The gems look stunning, and you get to choose the colors of the backgrounds to best show off their beauty. You can choose the cut and size for each individual gem, and there is a cute little cutting mini game to make sure you’re picking the right cut and carat for the size of the rock you mined.

A very good Garnet I cut myself!

Unlike most games that I have reviewed and played over the years for Ladies Gamers, RigidGems Museum feels completely unique, based more on the love of precious stones than an attempt to make a new version of the same old thing. I’ve never quite seen anything like this before, and that makes it stand out like a diamond in the rough.

The Cons of RigidGems Museum

All that being said, RigidGems Museum is not perfect. There are some bugs to contend with, including those that crash the whole thing. A couple of times that I interacted with gems, the physics launched the rocks around the screen or up into the air, causing the camera to unfocus. There were also a few times that two rocks that spawned near one another would make both of them dance around the screen as though possessed by ghosts.

An outline of a potential cut of a stone is outlined on the uncut stone.
The outline of the future cut doesn’t fit quite well, but I can fix it.

Another issue that I faced was the tutorial. Everything that RigidGems Museum explains to you is through this poorly-wrapped wall of text. And unfortunately, the instructions seem to have left some things out, including how to fulfil quests, what Tickets do, how to use purchased furniture, and what the point of having different galleries is.

The music was pretty repetitive; I liked the little song it played quite a bit and found it relaxing. But if you are planning on pouring a lot of time into RigidGems Museum, you might need to mute the sound and choose your own music.

A finished quest in RigidGems Museum.
The quest is done, and that’s a lot of money!

But by far the biggest con of RigidGems Museum was the price. When I first started diving into this game, I figured it was at most a $10 or maybe $15 USD price tag. The $25 USD price tag completely floored me. I can see that a lot of love, time and effort went into it, but RigidGems Museum is not, in my opinion, a $25 game.

Conclusion

RigidGems Museum is pretty fun. It’s unique and informational, and if you love gemstones, it’s something you can get lost in for a long time. However, there are a lot of bugs, and the price is out of whack. I had a lot of fun with my time in the museum, but it does have the feeling of an early access game rather than a completed one.

Final Verdict: I Like it
