Blue Reflection: Second Light

Blue Reflection Second Light title. Published on: LadiesGamers

Under a piercing blue sky, surrounded by crystal clear water, the sun scorched Ao Hoshizaki’s skin.
Gazing at the summer scenery, it seemed as if the girl was left behind in a world that she had wandered into. At a school adrift in the distance, there lived three girls who had lost their memories. The only thing they could remember was their names.

Shining into Yvonne’s Best Games of 2021:

I had looked forward to playing BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light and I can say it doesn’t disappoint. All the elements that make for a satisfying JRPG/simulation are here, and I can see Gust incorporated a lot of what makes Atelier Ryza a great game. Forming friendships, crafting things, making facilities, use of the FreeSpace app, exploring the Heartscapes, fighting….all merges quite satisfyingly. This also means that you must be in for the entire package. Focussing on the battles alone won’t let you progress, focussing on the simulation part won’t do the trick either.

Need some help in the battles? We’ve got your back with our battle guide.

Botany Manor

Screenshot of the video game Botany Manor displaying the game's grand, stately manor house. The manor, rendered in a charming, low-poly graphic style, is set against a clear blue sky with soft, flowing clouds. In front of the manor is a meticulously landscaped garden, complete with trimmed hedges, vibrant flower beds, and topiary trees in various shapes and colors. At the center of the garden is a tranquil fountain, adding a sense of serenity to the scene. The title 'BOTANY MANOR' floats above the manor in elegant white lettering. Published on: LadiesGamers

Welcome to Botany Manor, a stately home in 19th century England. You play as its inhabitant Arabella Greene, a retired botanist. Explore your house and gardens, filled with botanical research, to figure out the ideal habitat for a collection of forgotten flora. Grow each plant to discover the mysterious qualities they hold…

Botany Manor came up smelling of roses when I reviewed it.

There is no denying that Botany Manor transports you to a bygone era. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time digging around to find the growing conditions of the forgotten flora, ensuring my herbarium blossomed in completeness and unearthing Arabella Greene’s life.

Disney Dreamlight Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley. Published on: LadiesGamers

Explore a world filled with the magic of Disney as you discover rich stories and build the perfect neighborhood alongside Disney and Pixar heroes and villains.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is a hybrid between a life-sim and an adventure game rich with quests, exploration, and engaging activities featuring Disney and Pixar friends, both old and new.

Yvonne went all dreamy in reviewing Disney Dreamlight Valley:

At first, I felt a little overwhelmed by all that Disney Dreamlight Valley had to offer. There is just so much to collect, so many things to do and so many tasks and quests. Added to that, Gameloft is sprinkling treasure chests into the game daily and sends mail containing all kinds of goodies.
By now, I’m wholly committed to the game, and loving my time with all the familiar characters. The only reason I’m not giving it a Two Thumbs Up at this time is because of the bugs and other things that need adjusting. But, after all, that’s why it’s an Early Access version.

And to help you make sense of all that Disney sparkle, we’ve got some top tips.

There are various editions, but only the basic edition is on sale at the moment.

As you nurture and grow your homestead, you’ll get to meet charming characters, foster deep relationships and discover ways to infuse magic into everything you do. Fae Farm cast a spell on both Paula and Yvonne, as it became one of their Best Games of 2023. Paula concluded in her review:

Fae Farm is definitely worth a look if you’re a cosy game and farm sim fan. Just make sure you have ample time, as the gameplay and especially the crafting can be very addictive.

Farm Together

Farm Together. Published on: LadiesGamers

Grow your own farm all by yourself, or cooperate with your friends in this unique, relaxing farming experience!
The ultimate farming experience! Start from scratch, with a small plot, and end with a huge farm that extends further than the eye can see!

Yvonne enjoyed her time down on her Farm Together:

The game reminds me of HayDay, the mobile game that I sunk many, many hours into over the past years. And even though I feel they shouldn’t have given it the feel of a freemium game Farm Together has the same addictive vibe. HayDay but better, without the need for micro transactions and a much, much more vast playing field.
Graphically it’s a wonderful looking game. There are tons of customising options. For you character, for your tractor, for you pet and for your house. It controls well, although it can be funny to run across your field and seeing distant tree pop up out of nowhere when you do.

Check out our guide to help you make your farm productive.

Graveyard Keeper

Graveyard Keeper logo. Published on: LadiesGamers

Expand a medieval cemetery into a thriving business, whatever it takes!
Graveyard Keeper is the most inaccurate medieval cemetery management sim of the year. Build & manage your own graveyard while finding shortcuts to cut costs, expand into entertainment with witch-burning festivals, and scare nearby villagers into attending church. This is a game of capitalism and doing whatever it takes to build a thriving business.

Paula was dying to get to grips with Graveyard Keeper:

Graveyard Keeper looks lovely with its pixel art graphics. The soundtrack changes depending on what area of the map you’re in. Sometimes there’s music, sometimes the ambient sounds and weather effects: all of this makes the game an inviting world to spend time in, even with its morbid theme.

Caution should be used however as some of the games’ theme and language may be slightly offensive to some, especially the young.

For fans of the genre: if you can get your head around the cutting up and burying off the dead, make no bones about it. Graveyard Keeper is a great addition to the Nintendo Switch, and it seems the life of an undertaker can certainly keep a player busy for hours with a wide array of gameplay activities.

If you need some help, check out our guide.

The Ultimate Collector’s Edition and individual DLCs are also on sale in North America, but only a couple of the DLCs are on offer in Europe.

Grow: Song of Evertree

Grow: Song of the Evertree. Published on: LadiesGamers

Over time, the Worlds of Alaria faded. The Evertree – where many worlds resided on its countless branches – is now nothing more than a sapling, its splendor long erased from memory. No one knows how to make it grow. But you are different. You hear the sun as it sings across the sky. You hear the language of rain against the earth. You are the last of the Everheart Alchemists and your task has been passed down from generation to generation – Grow and protect the Evertree!

Grow: Song of the Evertree was sweet music to Paula:

Grow: Song of the Evertree is a sweet and wholesome game. As I’ve previously mentioned it wouldn’t be a game suited to all. But if you like helping people, making them happy, collecting resources and exploring a beautiful world then Grow: Song of the Evertree would be a game for you. Also if you have played Prideful Sloths previous game Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles you will feel right at home in the world of Alaria.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

Sid Meier's Civilization VI, with Roman and Egyptian characters, with the Eiffel Tower, Coliseum and Big Ben in the background. Published on: LadiesGamers

Explore a new land, research technology, conquer your enemies, and go head-to-head with history’s most renowned leaders as you attempt to build the greatest civilization the world has ever known.

Yvonne gave Sid Meier’s Civilization VI a ‘Two Thumbs Up’ rating:

The Garden Path

The Garden Path. Published on: LadiesGamers

Between forgotten statues and newfound friends, find yourself in a relaxing getaway. Discover a secret garden and your role within it.

The Garden Path is a slice-of-life gardening sim that celebrates small moments. No matter how you decide to play, the garden is a tender world of familiar sights and sounds, mysteries, and friendly faces. A space to call your own, to curate, and to reflect.

I certainly dug The Garden Path, and the various updates since release have helped make the game even better.

This is not a game for the faint-hearted. If you like bright colours and clear guidance, look for a different game. But, just like in real life, the more time and effort you invest, the more reward you get, especially when it comes to gardening.

However, if your garden needs a little nurturing, check out our guide.

Wytchwood

Wytchwood Published on: LadiesGamers

Lovingly rendered storybook art style. Gather, collect, grow and craft bizarre ingredients. Research and concoct devious spells and sorceries.

Wytchwood featured in both Paula and Mina’s Best Games of 2021.

If crafting, exploring and lots of humour are what you look for in a game, then Wytchwood is the game for you. I’ve certainly enjoyed my playthrough of the game. The story is interesting, the characters are cutesy, dark, and grotesque with humour sprinkled in for good measure and fantastic graphics to top it all off. Wytchwood is definitely one of my games of the year and it receives our highest score.
