5 Fun Summer Games With Beaches

Summer means beach season for so many people. Here are five games that I liked a lot, which have beach (or ocean) areas in them. Some are older; some are a bit obscure, but I enjoyed them all. I hope I have made you aware of at least one new game that you’ll want to add to your collection.

Project Shoreline

Project Shoreline
This is me, a Muri, standing near the shoreline.

Project Shoreline is a totally free game that I return to over and over. It was developed by the very talented game developers Speldosa Interactive as a kind of validation project. Their upcoming game Muri: Wildwoods, makes use of the elements in Project Shoreline and expands on them. Project Shoreline is a cleaning game where I played as a cute little Muri, which is a cross between a mouse and a fish.

The game features a lovely, soothing soundtrack as well as a meditative cleaning mechanic. All I do in the game is clean things, and when they are totally clean, there are great sound effects, and the area becomes beautiful and colorful. There’s no complicated overarching lore, just cleaning. I return back to this game when I’m between games, and it’s a great relaxing, zen experience whether I play for an hour or 10 minutes. I wrote about Project Shoreline in this article. It’s available on Steam.

Find Your Words

Find Your Words
What a lovely beach scene!

Find Your Words is a very sweet little game that is also totally free. It was developed by two proud fathers of children who do not have spoken language, and yet have found their voices using symbols. Find Your Words taught me about Augmentative and Alternative Communication methods in a really fun way.

The game took place in a bright colorful summer camp setting where I used a communication binder to assist my fellow campers. One of the fun locations in Find Your Words is the beach, where I completed a quest. It was a joyful experience to play this game, and you can read my article about it here. This would be a great game to play with a child to encourage empathy and acceptance for others.

Cozy Grove

Cozy Grove

Cozy Grove is one of my all-time favourite games and another game which I go back to from time to time. I played it every day for well over a year! I really enjoyed the low-key quests and the satisfaction of adding more logs to Flamey to increase his size. At this point, my entire island has color because I completed all the quests long ago, but I can still visit anytime I want and get more quests. Just for fun!! The characters in the game were memorable and touching. I really appreciated how the game was time-gated, because I generally play for a specific amount of time every day. That amount of time happened to line up with Cozy Grove’s time constraints perfectly! Paula said this in her review of the game

The game is quite cute, the artwork is lovely and helping the bear-like islanders is a lot of fun.

It’s available on Steam and Switch, and you can read Paula’s full game review here.

Alba: A Wildlife Adventure

Alba: A Wildlife Adventure
I can just imagine the waves crashing ashore on this beach.

I had Alba: A Wildlife Adventure in my library for a while before I finally played it. I don’t know why I waited so long!! It was a joyful romp and so heartwarming. I played as Alba, a young girl living on a beautiful Mediterranean island. She was so charming, I loved how she skipped when she was excited! She spent her time taking pictures of various types of wildlife. Sometimes they were really elusive and required a bit of effort to find. Other times, they were right out in the open. She also helped her island neighbors by completing quests for them. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Alba: A Wildlife Adventure.

Paula reviewed the game and said this.

Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is a heartwarming tale of being kind and looking out for others and the world around you.

A Corgi’s Cozy Hike

A Corgi's Cozy Hike
What a bright and colorful beach scene. (Don’t mind the dog poop!! The island is just full of dogs!)

Last but not least, A Corgi’s Cozy Hike deserves a shout-out. It is a game centered around a Corgi, in case it wasn’t obvious! He arrived at an island where his breed is rare and revered. There are even statues of Corgis. There are many quests and adventures for him to complete, and the main themes of the game are acceptance, affirmation and empathy for others. It’s a bright, colorful and happy game which was created by game devs who care deeply about animals. In fact, 10% of the game’s proceeds go to shelters to sponsor rescue dogs. Gotta love that!

I wrote about the demo for A Corgi’s Cozy Hike in this article.  I have not had the opportunity to play the full game yet, but one day I will get to it!
