All Aboard for Bon Voyage: Scenic Belgian Landscapes

Belgian indie studio Zamarkand has revealed its debut title, Bon Voyage, with a cinematic trailer on Steam. This idle game invites players to experience the golden age of rail travel, guiding a steam train through hand-painted landscapes inspired by 19th-century Belgium.

A Relaxing Desktop Companion

In Bon Voyage, your locomotive travels quietly along the bottom of your screen while you go about your daily tasks. Designed as a “desktop companion” game, it allows players to stay productive while still enjoying a slow-paced gaming experience. Gameplay primarily takes place during stops, creating natural moments to check in without demanding constant attention.

You will plan routes, dispatch your train, and manage passenger satisfaction, all while soaking in the calm rhythm of travel. The focus is on creating a soothing experience that fits around modern life.

A Journey Through History

Creator Farhat Fazela of Zamarkand explains the inspiration for Bon Voyage:

I started with the idea that as we get older, we play games less often than we would like to. By changing how a game can be played and slowing down its pace, players can still focus on their work or studies, while rediscovering the magic of games.

This design philosophy shines through in every aspect of Bon Voyage. The gameplay encourages balance, letting players dip in briefly during station stops while the journey continues in the background.

Beyond its cosy gameplay, Bon Voyage also offers a glimpse into Belgium’s past. The game reflects the transformative impact of steam and rail travel during the 19th century, blending education with entertainment.

Players can build period-accurate trains and take on the role of conductor, ensuring passengers are comfortable and journeys run smoothly.

Watercolour Worlds

Whether you are drawn to scenic views all hand-painted in watercolour, historical settings, or train simulation, Bon Voyage offers something inviting for everyone.

A demo for Bon Voyage is expected to arrive around Gamescom 2026 in summer, with the full release currently planned for spring 2027.
