Top 5 Handheld Gaming LadiesGamers.com

ChamZen’s Top Handheld Games of 2019

Every year, each of us takes a look at our top handheld games. Of course, I’ve reviewed many games, but only five can make it to my list. And some, I’ve not even reviewed! Here goes!

Number 5. Steamworld Quest Hand Of Gilgamech

I played Steamworld Quest Hand of Gilgamesh when it was released back in April.

Hand of Gilgamesh is a card battling RPG, card games are not  usually a genre I would play but since this was Steamworld I had to try it out.

I wasn’t disappointed either as it is a very enjoyable game with a quirky cast of robot characters with their own personalities. With the RPG elements in the game I was soon engrossed in the steam punk world. You can find my review for Steamworld Quest Hand of Gilgamesh here.

Number 4. The Legend Of Zelda Link’s Awakening

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening released in September was a must buy for me as being a long time (we won’t mention how long that time is) Zelda fan of anything with the word Zelda in the title is a must have.

I had originally played Link’s Awakening way way back on the Game Boy so I wanted to visit is again and replay it on the Nintendo Switch.

It was fantastic to see all my old friends again in the game and to hear all the music I remembered from the original game, of course now it has lovely updated graphics and sound.

Number 3. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition

Dragon Quest is another of Nintendo’s game series that I never miss a release off and this year Nintendo was very kind to Dragon Quest fan’s with numerous dragon quest games released for the Nintendo Switch.

This one is an RPG adventure with a large world infested with monsters and turned based battles, loads of guests to complete and a grand epic story.

I played the game in 3D but it also offers the ability to change to retro 2D graphics. I intend to go back to the game and replay it in 2D for my next Dragon quest adventure.

Number 2. Dragon Quest Builders 2

Dragon Quest Builders 2 was released in July and I couldn’t wait to start playing it as I liked the first Dragon Quest Builders game so there was no reason I wouldn’t like release number 2. Well let me tell you they have improved on Dragon Quest builders so much that I loved all the improvements in the game. I spent hundreds of in game building what I wanted after I had completed the story and what a great story it was as well. This is another game that I loved everything about so much so I have written some gameplay guides for the site which you can find here.

Number 1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Complete Edition

The Witcher 3 was released in October and I normally purchase my games digitally however with Witcher 3 I decided to buy a physical copy just in case I didn’t like the game and I could return it. How wrong was I…. I love the game and it won’t be getting returned to the shop at any time.

My reason for being apprehensive about Witcher 3 was it’s blood and gore which I’m not to fond of but thankfully the blood and gore can be adjusted in the options menu and you can turn it down slightly.

Witcher 3 is an 18 rated RPG adventure game with a vast open world to explore over five maps with 2000 quests,  (yes you read that right as 2000) secondary quests and Witcher contracts to complete, there is always something to do in the game. You play as Geralt of Rivia a Witcher who is basically a travelling monster slayer and a man of few words with two very sharp swords on his back. The world is alive with bears, wolves and wild dogs, and lots of other wild life and the medieval cities and villages are bustling with people.

The storyline is engrossing and as the player your choices in the game can define which ending of the game you see. It’s just an epic game and I can certainly see why it won so many game awards when it was first released on PC years ago.

I’ve been playing Witcher 3 since October and I’m still playing though I’ve completed the main story and have started the expansions.

I might be a little heartbroken when I actually finish the game and have to leave my lovable rogue Geralt behind but I’m already planning a second play through to make different choices in the storyline next time. I have certainly got my money’s worth on my purchase of The Witcher 3 that I was originally doubtful I would enjoy with over 200 hours played and I’m not quite finished it yet.

It’s an amazing, engrossing and extremely enjoyable game and it’s my Number 1 game for 2019.
