It’s time for more gaming news! Tonight, we cover Nintendo of Europe’s latest digital sales news, AlphaDreams’ sad bankruptcy, and a release date for Stranded Sails.
Last Months top-selling eShop Games
It’s October already, and Nintendo of Europe has shared European eShop sales data for September. Unsurprisingly, monthly sales were dominated by a marooned hero and a naughty goose. My favourite game of the month is Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition which finished the month at 13. It’s also nice to see other personal favourites such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Bastion, and Transistor at 6, 7 and 11 respectively.

Alpha Dream Declares Bankruptcy
Fans of the Mario and Luigi RPG franchise were in mourning yesterday as news broke of AlphaDream’s bankruptcy. According to Kotaku, development costs forced the company into $3.7 million of debt. This news makes me sad for Mario and Luigi remains an all-time favourite franchise of mine.

Mario Kart Tour Enjoys Huge Success on Mobile Systems
Reviews may be mixed, but Mario Kart Tour has been downloaded more 90 million times in a week. According to The Senior Tower blog, Mario Kart Tour’s download figures are “six times greater than … Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which generated 14.3 million downloads in its first week.”

Stranded Sails has a Launch Date
The much anticipated Stranded Sails game from Merge Games and Lemonbomb Entertainment has a release date. On October 17th, you’ll finally be able to “explore islands, water your crops, and solve the mysteries of Stranded Sails.” (adapted from the official press release).
Earlier this year, Yvonne wrote about Stranded Sails during a weekend edition of Gaming News. In the game: “you’re ship-wrecked with your crew on a mysterious archipelago. As the child of the gravely injured captain, you take charge and set up a camp for the surviving crew. Various quests await you! Explore the islands, find tools and treasures and build a new ship to find your way home. Before you can embark on exciting adventures in the depths of the Cursed Islands, however, you have to prepare yourself by farming, cooking and crafting.”
And finally:
Patch 1.1.0 is now available for Super Mario Maker 2. The game now supports online co-op and multiplayer users on friend lists. Nintendo has also included a host of other features including:
- Official Maker Courses and Leaderboards (including courses made for collaborations and special events)
- Touch Screen and Button Support in handheld mode
- Voice chat support via the Nintendo Switch Online App
