A pixel art body of water and sand in Isle of Finbari

Isle of Finbari Demo Impressions

The demo for Isle of Finbari was really unique. It was short, but it left me wanting more! I think this game will be super cozy, comforting and fun to play.

The Demo For Isle of Finbari Was Different From Usual

Usually, when I play a demo for a farming/fishing/mining type sim, I have been told the main character has inherited or purchased an abandoned farm. You know the drill. But not this time! The demo for Isle of Finbari has very little dialogue. That immediately intrigued me. I wanted to know the story! But there was none. Instead, all I could do was wander around the village, exploring. I liked that!

Soon, I met a child named Cynthia, and we began a dialogue. She told me that her candy bag had a hole in it and she lost all 20 pieces of candy. She asked me to help her find them. I was given the option to say “yes” or “no”, and of course, I said “yes”!

This quest gave me another incentive to wander around the village, and this time I discovered a lot more! I thought it was a really clever way to introduce me to the game’s elements.

I found an orange piece of candy in front of the house in the upper left. I also checked out all the buildings while I was there.

Things I Discovered About The Isle of Finbari

The game itself is pretty simple and intuitive, and I like that! Sometimes you want a game with uncomplicated controls and not a ton of stuff to learn as you begin. Isle of Finbari is meant to be played on a controller, which is my preference, and it played flawlessly for me. In the demo, I was able to walk around the map, enter some buildings, and speak to Cynthia. I was not able to cross any waterways; I used bridges for that. I could not run, maybe I can in the full game. I also didn’t have a quest journal in the demo, but the Steam page informed that the full game will have one.

As I wandered around looking for Cynthia’s lost candies, I discovered a lot more about the Isle of Finbari. Mainly, I learned that a lot more items will be available in the full game! There were a few houses that I could enter in the demo; they were cute with a variety of rooms to explore. A couple of those houses had TVs and computer screens illuminated.  When I got close to those electronics, I saw that they would be available in the full game. And I found at least 5 houses that I could not enter yet. Enticing…..

This is one of the houses I was able to enter. The TV in the bottom right corner is turned on, but I can’t see the program in the demo.

The Feel of the Isle of Finbari

There is a lot to see on the Isle of Finbari. There were 4 cute little shops that I could not enter in the demo. They included a furniture shop, a garden shop, a general store and a clothing store. I look forward to learning more about those shops.

I will be able to enter these darling little shops in the full game.

The Isle of Finbari is an open-world game with top-down pixel graphics and was presented nicely. It’s a bright and colorful place with a lovely soundtrack that was mainly piano in the demo. The Steam page informed me that all of the music was composed by members of the dev team and also that the soundtrack changes depending on your location in the game. I like that!

Things To Look Forward to in Isle of Finbari

There were a lot of things that were inaccessible to me in the demo, but will be included in the full game. These include a gold exchange site, a beach, access to the PCs and TVs in the house, my house, my garden, a recycling area, Dr Crabbin, caves and an arcade.

The Steam page shows at least 9 NPC villagers that I will be interacting with. I will be able to farm, mine and fish. There’s a lot more to the game than the demo shows. But I still really liked how the demo encouraged me to wander and explore on my own. I didn’t need to know about the farming, mining or fishing yet. I was entranced enough just exploring the town, looking for candies!

Final Thoughts

I really liked the way this demo was presented. It only lasted 20 minutes, but it certainly got me very interested in the game, kind of like a teaser. I enjoyed my time on the Isle of Finbari and look forward to learning more about it. The game will be released in Early Access soon.
