7Levels are no strangers when it comes to Nintendo Switch publishing and development. Castle of Heart was developed and published by 7Levels back in March 2018 as a Switch exclusive. Jet Cave Adventure is the companies 2nd in-house developed title.  I’ve yet to play Castle of Heart, but Jet Cave Adventure highlights yet another talented indie studio with great promise.
Storyline
The game takes place on a prehistoric island. Kave, once the leader of his tribe is now banished, and while being cast out, an alien ship crashlands. Being a brave warrior, Kave runs to the crash site, only to be overcome by superior alien technology.  While Kave lay unconscious, the villainous alien flies to the island’s volcano to mine energy crystals, putting the whole island at risk. Upon waking up, Kave finds a jet pack which boosts his abilities like never before. Can Kave save his Island from certain destruction?
Gameplay
Jet Kave Adventure is a fun platform game that looks great, plays well, and offers a nice variety of in-game elements. Even though the game is far from perfect, it enjoys a degree of polish which was a pleasant surprise. The game’s quality immediately stands out. It’s obvious that 7Levels, as stated on its website, is aiming to satisfy fans of Nintendo platforms. Unsurprisingly, the game seems to be heavily influenced by the Donkey Kong Country series.
The game’s chief mechanic is the Jet-Pack. Equipped with this high tech device, Kave can fly, dodge, and attack at pace. Also armed with a club, and slingshot, Kave is truly a prehistoric powerhouse.
From the start, the game introduces you to typical platform elements that fans are all too familiar with. Kave can jump and wall jump, slide down walls etc. As well as enabling Kave to reach collectables, avoid gaping chasms, and burst through walls,  the jet-pack also enables our Hero to pull off powerful attacks. Kave is a human bulldozer, and neither reptile, mammal or alien can match his ferocity. As well as stong, Kave is nimble enough to climb along transverse edges, race through small spaces on all fours, pole-vault using bamboo sticks,  and bounce using trampoline mushroom type plantlife.
Some of the best stages involve crumbling bridges, ledges, and timed platforms such as flowers which bud after being hit with a stone.
Level Design
I enjoy the types of level design on over in Jet Kave Adventure. There are plenty of hidden areas, which can be found using the jet-pack. They don’t match the quality of classic Nintendo stages, but they’re still fun, and engaging. I’d love to see what 7Levels could do with a bigger budget and more development time.  The developers have also tried to mix things up by including door switches and chase and flight stages.  I’m particularly a big fan of the games backdrop art.
Quality of Life
Jet Kave Adventure is an ideal game for newcomers to the genre. Lives are unlimited, extra energy can be purchased, Weapons can be improved, and jetpack tank capacity increased. There are multiple checkpoints, a generous amount of food supplies, as well as the ability to eat food and increase energy levels while playing. Item improvements are easy to purchase thanks to how easy it is to collect shells, Jet Kave’s in-game currency.
If you are a completionist, then each stage has three optional challenges. These include completing a stage within a set time limit, collecting a certain number of shells, and completing stages without damage.
Conclusion
I like Jet Cave Adventure a lot. Before reviewing Jet Cave Adventure, I knew nothing about 7Levels or Jet Kave Adventure. Now, I can’t wait to see what 7Levels will do next.
I like it a lot!
