A very scanty tutorial

Mad Games Tycoon is a simulation/ management game where you take on the role of a video game developer. If you ever wanted to develop and publish games now is your chance, even if it is in a virtual world!

Of course, that is once you work out what you are meant to be doing, as the tutorial in the game is very scant and really doesn’t tell you much at all.

That may put some people off playing this game. However, if you stick with it there is an enjoyable management game underneath the bare minimum of a tutorial.

For a game with virtually no tutorial and very little story there is a lot of depth under its hood.

Starting small in a garage…where have I heard that before?

Your game development company starts small in a garage but can grow from its humble beginnings to a large gaming company. That is, like in real life, if the fans like your game and it sells well of course.

There’s such a lot of things to decide for your company. From hiring staff to researching your games’ graphics and genre to providing a staff room for said staff. From deciding what age range your game will cover and what systems it will appear on…..the list goes on.

The tutorial as I’ve said is short and doesn’t explain any of theses things in great detail. Be prepared to fail and fail often in your game development. A longer tutorial would have been better, I’m not asking for hand holding, just a little bit more explanation on some of the features would have been nice.

As it is I have spent quite a few hours working out what some of the features mean and how to get my developed game to catch the fans interest and sell well. I need to have money to develop more games and in turn increase the size of my games production. I don’t need to throw money down the drain! I imagine just like real life developers do: you can run out of money very quickly if you make a game that doesn’t interest the fans enough for them to buy it.

So many details to manage

As you get deeper into Mad Games Tycoon and more things are unlocked, there are a lot of things to manage during a game development. Choose what system to develop a game for, what dev kits and patches for your game to use. How to advertise your new game and picking a good name. Such as Mario Party Hangover for one, or maybe you will go with Not Final Tactics as a name. Plus you even have to decide who will publish your next hit game, will you choose Ibusoft or Romedie for that privilege?

The presentation of Mad Games Tycoon is pretty simplistic as you can see from the pictures. That’s fine though for a Management game. It really doesn’t need all singing, all dancing flashy graphic’s as long as the gameplay holds up and in this case it does.

The same can be said for the music which loops the same song over and over, so my game was mostly played with the sound turned down on my Nintendo Switch.

Conclusion

Along with a slightly high price point Mad Games Tycoon may have a few minor faults that I have mentioned, like the lacking tutorial. Overall though, once you get to grips with the game it is an enjoyable and challenging management simulation with gameplay that sucks you in. Before you know it hours have passed by!

As for now I’m off to see how well my latest release The Legend of Nelda performs on its release day, wish me luck as I’m probably going to need it.

Final Verdict: I Like It
