Lightwood games have a few word puzzle games released on the Nintendo Switch, I have reviewed Word Puzzle by POWGI, as you can see in the review here.
I was looking for a simple yet pleasurable Word Search game in the eShop and knowing how Lightwood games present their word games I thought I would try out Word Search by POWGI.
POWGI is good at these games
Anyone who has played a Word Search game will be familiar with the layout,
A box made up of letters arranged in a grid which contains a number of hidden words running in various directions. The list of words to find are in alphabetical order beside the grid. Words can run diagonally, horizontally, run into one another and even backwards.
Controls are joy stick and one button, click on the first letter of the word and drag the cursor to the end letter, or use the touchscreen controls. Once found the word is faded out in the list of words on the side.

A very functional word puzzle
There is over 300+ puzzles which are spread across a range of different categories. Everything from the Animal Kingdom, Stay in School to Adopt a Pet. With 27 categories and 12 puzzles per category there is lots of variety to chose from.
There is a timer on screen but it’s penalty free and only serves the purpose of being able to go back and try and beat your previous score.
There isn’t much to look as such, graphic wise it’s very plain with just the grid and words, and the same can be said for the music, however since it is a word puzzle game and is functional as that, do the graphics being a bit grey really make much difference, after all is it not the quality of the puzzles that should take centre stage in a game like this.

Multi Player fun to be had
I’ve played Word Search By POWGI mostly handheld and it is perfect for a quick 5 minute play or a few puzzles before bedtime. I’ve used both means of control and both the touchscreen and controllers work very smoothly when your highlighting a word.

Along with single player there is also 2/4 player included. My none gaming partner joined a game I was playing, using one joy-con each we had a lot of fun with the Nintendo Switch sitting in front of us. Each person that plays is given their own colour to highlight the words with so there is no confusion, up to 4 players can play either via Local wireless or Online as well.

Perfect for quick play sessions
For a Word Search game on the Nintendo Switch Word Search by POWGI has all it needs to have to be a great fit in the puzzle genre. With a bunch of friends around for a visit I could see this being fun before we moved on to something like Mario Kart.
The game isn’t going to blow you away with top notch looks or sound but for what it is, it is a great game to pass some time with and give your brain a bit of a work out.
There is a free demo available in the eShop if you wish to try before you buy.

I bought this too, it’s often on offer and well worth it if you love wordsearches
.
I remember this game always on newspapers.
It’s one of the parts of a newspaper I love the most – Word Search, Crossword Puzzle, and Comic Strips.
Word puzzles and games are the bread and butter of Puzzle On Word Games Inc (POWGI).
And they’re very good at it.
POWGI’s Word Search on Switch is a great take on the newspaper one and the traditional pen and paper one.
It’s nice to hear that it’s a 4-player game.
It’d be as cool as Tetris 99 if it also hops in the BR hype.
Thanks for shedding light on this one.
