A new free update has arrived for Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts, bringing a crossover with Balatro. Jimbo, the mischievous Joker, now takes on the role of a client with special commissions, adding a fresh creative twist to the game.
Available now, this update expands the Story Mode while also introducing new tools and quality of life improvements for players who enjoy designing their own medieval-style artwork.
Jimbo Arrives With New Illustrative Commissions
As part of the update, Jimbo appears in Story Mode with his own set of themed requests. You are invited to create unique Joker cards from front to back, as well as design a ship capable of travelling across towns and villages.
These commissions fit neatly into the game’s core loop, where you take on artistic tasks and bring unusual ideas to life through detailed illustrations.

To support the crossover, the update adds new card-based creation tools. You can work on card-sized parchments to design your own medieval Joker cards and decorative pieces.
Once finished, your creations can be exported as PNG files. This means you can print your own physical card sets or reuse the designs for personal projects, extending the creative aspect beyond the game itself.
New Features And Improvements
Alongside the Balatro content, the update includes several quality of life additions. A new Sandbox Gallery makes it easier to organise and manage your creations, especially if you enjoy working on multiple projects. The addition of transparent background export also gives you more flexibility when using your artwork in tabletop maps, props, or other non-commercial hobby projects.
These tools build on the game’s role as a relaxed creative platform, where you can experiment without pressure or time limits.
More Assets And Creative Possibilities
The update also expands the asset library with over 200 new drawable elements. This includes backgrounds, frames, clothing, animals, and shapes, giving you even more ways to create detailed and unusual medieval illustrations.

Some familiar designs appear as well, including elements inspired by Inkulinati. New guest clients also join the roster, offering their own themed commissions to complete.
A Creative Sandbox That Keeps Growing
In our Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts review, Kalina found that Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts might be a bit of a niche game, but if you are in the mood for humor and creativity and you are in a medieval mood, Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts might just be the game for you.
The addition of Jimbo’s commissions, expanded assets, and improved tools gives you even more ways to explore your creativity and shape your own medieval artwork. There’s a demo available on Steam if you want to give Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts a try.
