The Premise of Turquoise

In Turquoise, we build and decorate our own reef, observe wildlife, and learn about marine fauna while enjoying a calm underwater world, away from the worries and stress of real life.

Gameplay

At the start of the game, we can choose from three biomes, each with its own aquatic species and decorations. We can also choose between two game modes: discovery and sandbox. In discovery, we get control over the flora and decorations – what we put in the reef. The aquatic species arrive at our reef on their own. From what I can tell, every few decorations and elements we put on the seabed unlock new aquatic species. In sandbox mode, we can place fish, decorations, and flora. All the fish we’ve unlocked in discovery mode are available in sandbox mode, and we can also unlock more species by placing more fish in the sea.

The encyclopedia
We can see all the unlocked aquatic species in a lexicon at the top right corner of the screen. Each entry provides basic information about the fish, including where it can be seen in the real world or in-game.
Turquoise has a nice selection of decorations and flora to adorn our reef.  We can choose from ancient crockery to shipwrecks and ruins, as well as rocks and corals. The whole game has an almost watercolor art style that only complements the calm, cozy gaming experience. There is no rush and no timers on the bottom of the sea. We can choose the time of day and enjoy how the sun changes the underwater landscape. The way seagrass sways in the water is almost meditational.

Some Other Things

Turquoise has basic audio, video, and camera settings, as well as a replayable tutorial. The game has Steam achievements, but no Trading cards yet.

Conclusion

If you like educational games and sea creatures, and if you are in the mood for some calm and contemplative gaming experience, take a look at Turquoise. You will probably enjoy it.

Final Verdict: I Like it. I like it
