Time to sit down for another YvoCaro Plays. As always, these blurbs are mostly about the video games I’m currently playing. Unedited thoughts that spring up in my mind, mostly game related. And sometimes a random train of thoughts starting with the game and ending somewhere completely different.
It’s only fair to warn you that spoilers might sometimes be included. If you like these bits of gaming thoughts you can find the previous ones here
Taking letting go a step further
As you may remember, LadiesGamers started out as my blog almost five years ago now. Always about games I enjoyed playing, but over the years a lot of personal stuff crept in too. Which is good, as you can’t maintain online for five years without giving something about yourself away.
I realised this morning that these weekly YvoCaro articles are very much an extension of the old blog. I love writing, and it often feels I’m talking to you directly. So I hope you won’t mind me rambling on about things in my life every so often. Here we go!
Over 6 weeks ago we settled our daughter into her student flat for her internship. And today she is taking a trip alone to see her boyfriend who is in the US, for his studies at Utah University. Flying out from Heathrow Airport in London to Las Vegas.
We knew this was coming, and as we usually do, we strived to be as prepared as we could be. Downloading maps of the airports, arranging a hotel at Heathrow Airport as we didn’t want her to trek through London at 5 am. as her flight left early. Still, this will be a nerve racking day, as I’m sure any parent will understand.
It reminded me of a hugely popular television series over here in the Netherlands about a teacher in primary school and how she deals with the parents of the kids she teaches. The parents are often portrayed as overly worried, and she tells them they are curling parents: constantly brushing away any obstacle the child might meet, even before the potential obstacle arrives.
I know, I’m guilty of that too. But I tell myself that this time in her life isn’t the time to step back…yet.

A couple of weeks ago Reggie Fils-Aime, CEO of Nintendo of America, announced he is stepping down this April to enjoy his retirement. He is succeeded by a guy named Bowser. As in Bowser, Mario’s nemesis who is constantly kidnapping Princess Peach. When I first saw the announcement I really thought I was misreading it, or that someone had misspelled it. But no, it was for real. Doug Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 after working at Electronic Arts Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co.
It left me wondering how this works: did they go through applications for the job? “Everyone, stop searching and throw all others aside! We’ve got our guy?” Or did someone at Nintendo meet him at a networking conference and just knew he had to work at the home of Mario? 😂
Anyway, it sure sent a shock through the ranks of Nintendo fans, especially when this disturbing image appeared. It’s a photo of when Bowser first joined Nintendo in 2015. See the prisoners in the background? Like Nibel writes: ” we never getting a new Mario game ever again” (hmmm, not great at writing English eh?)
Check our the tweet and laugh at the responses! And I wish you a very happy weekend. ☺️
This is the first photo of Doug Bowser when he joined Nintendo

Interesting post!
I find this news about a guy by the name of Bowser taking over Nintendo of America as the successor of Reggie Fils-Aime somewhat coincidental and chucklesome.
The meme got me smiling.
Anyway, I’m gonna miss Reggie and his epic “kicking ass, taking names, and making games”.
Jeez!
So many recent news has been hinting an alliance between Microsoft and Nintendo from their meetings to the case of Damon Baker and Doug Bowser.
Ohh, and I’d missed that part about an alliance between Microsoft and Nintendo. Now that would be interesting indeed.
I’m gonna miss Reggie too, just like I’m missing Iwata. Such remarkable people!
At least we will still be able to see Reggie, just not at the front of Nintendo.
Doug Bowser has been a leader in the Nintendo America office for awhile now, and I wasn’t surprised that he took over Reggie’s position. It just makes sense. Also, I love how he’s always used his last name to a comedic value. Although I’ll miss Reggie, I can’t deny that someone who is already well known and admired taking over is a big positive.
P.S. I hope your daughter enjoys her time in the US! I know I miss it!
Hey Jenna
I had to chuckle at the tweet with his photo and Mario and Luigi being hostage. That must be staged and that means the guy really has humor!
She is doing fine, as we’ve visited your country a lot since she was small, she feels right at home!
