It’s time for Gaming News! Tonight, we cover news about an important court ruling, share information about an upcoming murder mystery title, and highlight new titles due to launch this week.
Links Awakening Tops UK Sales Chart while Untitled Goose Game Tops the eShop
UK gamers have been snapping up copies of Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch. Last weekends unit sales mean Link’s latest title sits pretty at the top of the UK All Format Sales Chart. Amazingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is sitting at number 3. It seems the launch of the Switch Lite resulted in great sales for new and classic titles alike. Other featured titles in the top 20 are Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Super Mario Maker 2 and Smash Bros. Ultimate are 8th, 12th, and 18th respectively.
The current top-selling eShop game is Untitled Goose Game. Link’s Awakening also enjoyed impressive digital sales and is currently placed 2nd in the eShop charts. The eShop sales chart lists the most downloaded titles for the past two weeks.
French Court Makes Game-Changing Decision Regarding Digital Gaming Rights
Should gamers have the right to resell digital copies of games? In a landmark case, a French court ruled that Steam gamers should be able to do just that. EU law states: “All goods sold within the EU must be able to be resold without permission from the person who originally sold them.” Steam tried arguing that it’s a subscription service and should be exempt from this particular regulation. Steam’s argument was dismissed, and they’re planning to appeal against the ruling.
Does this ruling signal a shaking up for online stores such as the eShop? Do you agree that gamers should have the right to resell digital purchases? How would such a system work? Please leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
